Leah thinks about the options when she hears them. It’s a really nice day out, so…
“I’ll go outside,” she decides. “I just want to make sure whoever’s outside knows I’m not really a little kid.”
“Sure thing! I’ll grab you some clothes.” The receptionist leaves, then comes back with clothes. They’re clearly meant for a toddler, but they’re clean and fit, so Leah puts them on. The clothes consist of a T-shirt, jean overalls, and some Velcro sneakers. “You look positively adorable,” the receptionist says.
“I do?”
“Yeah!” The receptionist brings Leah over to a full-length mirror. Leah gapes at her reflection. A toddler stares back at her. To her disappointment, while the bulge isn’t as bad as it would be from a diaper, it’s still obvious she’s wearing training pants. “Come on.” The receptionist leads Leah to the fenced in backyard play area. She calls over the daycare worker supervising things. “Julie?”
“Do we have a new attendee?” Julie asks, joining them.
“No, this is Tina’s stepdaughter Leah. There was a bit of an incident and she has to borrow some clothes for someone younger, but she’s really a teenager.”
“Oh!” Julie stares at Leah. “Wow, you pass as a toddler really well!”
“Uh, thanks?” Leah says hesitantly.
“Anyways, she’s going to be out here while she waits for Tina to finish up inside. So just make sure she doesn’t get treated like a little kid, okay?”
“Sure thing!” Julie chirps. The receptionist goes inside. “Since you’re a big girl, I’ll let you make your own decisions about what you want to do.”
Leah scans the yard, weighing her options.
