Colony Christmas Carols...

added by makutamon 3 years ago O

There wasn't too much going on in Lyre/Animalia, though this was partially due to the pandemic, but there was plenty of things going on in some of Animalia's colonies, even if some of them were on the strange side.

Possibly the strangest news was the announcement of births at Mieni Atoll. While Beacon and Allura's "spawnlings" held the most attention, due to their resemblance to an angler fish with toad legs, there was another announcement that coincided with one of Hunni Bunni's reports. In particular, this was an attempt to answer one of the age-old questions, or a variant of it: 'Where do baby seahorses come from?'. Hunni's report seemed to indicate that, while baby seahorses didn't come from inside their mother, it strayed from there because she seemed to think that seahorses are magical.

"Hunni, you really expect us to believe that hogwash?" asked Eliza, shaking her head at the conclusion of the report.

"Uh... Yeah!" answered Hunni.

"Here's someone who can show what the truth is." replied Eliza, starting the clip.

"That was a good try. I did get a bit of a laugh from it." said Thoosa, whom for some reason was only being shown from the neck up in the video. "But you may be surprised to learn that the facts of life can be even stranger than your fiction. In fact it was Triton who carried my babies before they were born." (Stewie: Say Whaaat!) "In fact the reason the plane crash at Mieni Atoll caught so many of us by surprise was the simple fact that Triton had given birth to five baby seahorse Animalians two days before." (Hank Hill: I don't know whether to laugh or vomit.) "It was actually this spring when Triton and I entered our season. After we placed our reservation, we were enjoying our courtship dance. Only a few days later, I laid five fertilized eggs into a pouch on Triton's belly, where the eggs developed for the last 6 months." She then showed a photo of Triton really swollen from the young in him. "In fact he went into labor just two days before the plane crash happened. As for what he's doing now, well," said Thoosa, now zooming out to show that she was in a tank with one baby seahorse nursing from each breast, with the other three swimming around her and waiting their turn. Fortunately everything inappropriate was either covered up or out of sight, "Let's just say he's hitting the gym, while I'm picking up the slack." (The Big Lebowski: That's marvelous.)

There was also some big news from Maelwano, which until now was dealing with the locust swarms. The biggest part of the news was that the Series Premier of The Fresh Prince of Pride Rock was getting ready to be shown. While most of the show's general plot was written by Disney, Will Smith (The original Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) stepped in to get some of the finer details right.

The end result was that a lower class refugee from the Sudan civil war moves in with his aunt only to learn that his aunt had married a lion Animalian, but not only that, said lion Animalian was the "king" of Maelewano. He then gets a crash course in what it means to be a "royal" with plenty of mixed results and one faux pas after another, from etiquette to political science and so on. But occasionally he gets to use his "street smarts" to get himself out of the messes he gets into.

While officially The Fresh Prince of Pride Rock wouldn't be shown on TV until January 2021, everyone was rather exited to see the show.

One final piece of big news came from Heiya Island, even though it was a little different from the other news. Heiya Island had played host to its' first formal event. While officially it wasn't anything higher than a middle school spelling bee due to the pandemic going on, there was plenty of low-tier drama.

The final two in the spelling bee gained a bit of notoriety due to the simple fact that when one of the two ended up making a mistake while spelling a word, the other one clapped in his face (to rub it in, kind of), but when he went up to spell the word that would make him the champion, a good piece of instant karma happened that made the second kid shut his mouth, and ended up with the first kid being the overall winner. Eventually it would become an internet meme about "honorable/dishonorable behavior in competition".
