“Binky,” Leah says timidly. “I want to go back to sleep, and it might help.”
“Sure thing, sweetie.” Tina pops a pacifier into Leah’s mouth. Leah suckles on it eagerly. Shortly, she falls back asleep. Tina can’t help but be incredibly amused by how her teenaged stepdaughter just asked her for a pacifier to help her fall back asleep in a stroller. They finally reach the front of the queue.
“Aw, what an adorable little boy!” coos the bank teller. “Is he yours?”
“Yes, Aspen is my son,” Tina lies.
“He’s so cute. And he looks just like you!”
“Thanks.” While Tina deals with the issue she needed to handle at the bank, Leah stirs again. The bank teller, who glances at Leah every now and then, notices.
“Oh, your son is up.”
“He is?” Tina turns. Leah is awake, but still suckling on the pacifier. “He is. Aspen, want to meet the nice bank lady?” Before Leah can shake her head, Tina removes her from the stroller and sets her on the counter.
“Hi, Aspen!” the bank teller coos. “You’re going to grow up to be such a looker, I just know it!” Leah blushes. She’s uncomfortable with the attention, and wants to go back to hiding in the stroller. But how can she get Tina to do what she wants?
