The bank is nearby. Tina might as well stop there first. When she parks the car outside the bank, Leah is still fast asleep.
“Sorry, but I can’t leave you in the car,” Tina whispers, removing her stepdaughter from the car seat. She takes out the stroller and buckles Leah into it. “Don’t worry, it’ll be fine.” Tina pushes the stroller into the bank, hoping that they won’t be long. However, that hope is dashed when she sees how many people are waiting in the lobby.
They’ve been waiting in line for about ten minutes when Leah begins to stir. Tina smiles down at her stepdaughter.
“Hello, Aspen,” she whispers. Leah sighs. “We’re at the bank. I thought you’d sleep through it. Don’t worry, once we’re done here, we’ll head straight home.” Tina doesn’t say the rest of the sentence, that they’ll only go home if Leah is still awake. She wants Leah to fall back asleep so that she can finish running errands.
“Fine,” Leah mumbles. She stays quiet for ten more minutes. “Tina?”
“Do you want something, Aspen?” Tina asks. Leah nods. “What do you want?”
