She really wan't interested in being visible just yet, but she heard Will call her name again. Megan had her sneaky side and she really wanted to be playful. Hearing his voice though realized that Will was special and it wasn't just right to tease him. Besides, how would she explain being invisible? She wasn't quite ready to let him know about it, either.
She heard Will come down the stairs. It was only a matter of time before he would come back in and look for her again. With remorse, she sat down in the chair and clicked the cancel button. Red light shined out of the emitter. She suddenly felt warm inside and it was somewhat stimulating to her. The emitter stopped glowing and Megan giggled when she could see her hand, arms, clothing and legs again. She reflected on the sensation she felt as the emitter fired. She really felt good and invigorated.
She decided to shutdown the computer and put the emitter and cable in her laptop's carrying case. She needed to hide the box the Chronivac came in before Will asked any questions. She shifted through the box looking for anything else in the box. She found nothing and decided to throw the box into the recycling pile. She placed her laptop in the case and secured it. She stepped out of the den into the main hallway when Will found her.
"There you are!" he explained.
Megan smiled. "Hi, dear!"
"Where have you been?" he inquired.
"I was fiddling with my computer and fiddling with my car," she mixed truth with a lie.
"I was concerned. I couldn't find you in the house and didn't see you when I parked in the garage. Did I just miss you?"
"I guess so. I was trying out something I got in the mail today. It's a new aspect to my project work and it could be very interested," she admitted and trying to curb her enthusiasm.
"What's it about?"
"Oh, it's a new virtual reality engine. It should be a great addition."
"Wow. I didn't know you needed virtual reality for graduate school work in business," he teased.
"I'll show it to you sometime. I need a bit more time with it to demo it," she added.
"Great. You ready for dinner?" Will inquired.
"Yeah, I am. Where are we going?" she asked.
"It's still a surprise," he teased. "You look great. Ready?"
Megan nodded. They gathered up a few things. Megan left the laptop in the office and they headed out for dinner and a sci-fi movie. Megan's heart wasn't totally into the movie as she kept thinking about the Chronivac. Will snuggled up with her and putting his arm around her. Yet, she could not enjoy the time with him. She kept wondering what all the Chronivac could do. "Could she really turn someone into an animal? Were there other things it could do?"
The movie ended quickly enough for her. Their trip back to Will's home was quiet and he asked her what was on her mind. She explained that the new VR engine intrigued her and she was looking at ways to incorporate it into her work. Will had not seen her so focused on anything in quite awhile and let her think on the way to his home.
Megan didn't stay long after they got there. She gathered her stuff and apologized for being so detached during the evening. Will said he understood and kissed her good night. Megan smiled and waved as she backed out of the garage and sprinted home. She had a 10 minute drive with the light evening traffic. With each mile closer home, her mind became more distracted with ideas.
At her apartment complex, she quickly parked her car, grabbed the computer case and her purse, and ran into her apartment. She ignored the answering machine and immediately set the laptop on the kitchen table. She plugged in the Chronivac emitter into the USB port and turned on the computer. Oddly, it didn't go through it's normal boot-up sequence, but immediately ran the Chronivac software. It was at the main menu asking the user what transformation was desired or to explore the help files.
