"It's more like a survival mechanism," The WIzZARD explained. "Modern humanity enjoys many luxuries, among them a long life expectancy. Once you reach adulthood there is little chance you will die. Unfortunately, this benefit is not available to wizards and witches. Yes, we have long natural lifespans. But many novices, and even experienced magicians find themselves whisked out of existence with a single mistake or unpredictable outcome."
The WIzZARD sat up a little straighter. "This is why having a old wizard as the family patriarch is such a status symbol among wizards. We have proven able to survive the worst reality can bring against us. Yet it remains our sorrowful duty to continue to procreate; as even centuries later our favorite children could vanish in a puff of smoke. And often times end up erasing their entire lineage from history."
"But wouldn't it be better than to focus on quality rather than quantity?" Zack queried. "Give a few trained magicians a better chance..."
"Unfortunately no. There is much to magic that cannot be explained until experienced for oneself first. And truly, young wizards and witches are of the most headstrong sort. They rarely listen to good advice."
"So when Daisy agreed to give you her firstborn as your scion.."
"Not exactly. Daisy wants children; and wants to share the experience of motherhood with you. But that includes raising them and being their mothers. Originally, Daisy wanted a way for two women to impregnate each other. But that would have greatly increased the complexity and cost of my services. This way concordantly reduces both."
"While I will sire the children, they will be yours to raise. Your family and your culture. Although I will naturally expect that should desire to seek me out, that they be allowed to once they reach the age of maturity. And if they have the spark of magic, be free to choose and claim their birthright."
"I see... how about if you just made me spiritually a woman and left my body and mind intact? Can't she just have both children? Make them twins?"
"There would still always be a first child. And there is something about fate that protects the firstborn child of each man and woman. It is as if lady luck or destiny has a plan especially for them. It is a ephemeral thing, but when dealing with something as capricious as magic on your side, it is often the only thing between a wizard and annihilation."
"But with a cesarean section..."
"A very dangerous scheme. Yes, from a certain point of view, both would be born simultaneously. But also there exists points of view where it can be fairly claimed that either of the children is truly the firstborn. And such mutable truths pose a grave danger to a wizard trying to rely on absolutes, and a terrible power to give ones enemies."
"But then what if I was a shapechanger? I could bear her child and then change back.."
"But that would deny your lover, Daisy her wish for a female companion, and I would have broken my end of the contract."
Zack considered these facts, his ability to search for loopholes exhausted. He considered his future fate with some disdain. Though he loved Daisy, he didn't want to be a woman for her.
"I guess that's it then. There is nothing I can do... still. I would have liked to had experienced sex as a male first."
"Unfortunately, even this small boon I cannot give to you. It is only because both of you are virgins that this spell will even work. So were I to provide you a companion this evening, it would cause a great deal of consternation."
Zack visibly deflated. "Why even tell me all this then? Why not just transform me and be done with it?"
"Because it is a sing of respect, and because you are soon to be the mother of my child. It is my hope you raise our children with a positive impression of me, and the power that is their birthright, sorcery. Hopefully I can make some accommodation for you, in either your form or your circumstances. Even some changes to Daisy would be possible."
"But do not make the mistake of thinking this contract is with you. I provide you this opportunity as a courtesy. This contract has been agreed to by and with the lady Daisy, and while I will work to provide an equitable compromise, I will not give you the freedom to create your form whole. Instead, I will take your requests as inspiration, and try and work everything together as best I can.
So I urge you, use this opportunity to make yourself as happy with this as possible. Do not resort to subterfuge and trickery. Because you will not have exactly what you expect. Tell me the form in which I should remake you, so that you are happy with the results. Or if you do not, I will transform you according to the true nature you display."
