Natalia Berryman stood up chained to an old-style torture chamber. She is in the lair of Dr. Juan Gomez. Natalia is an assassin/spy known as a bloodletter. The bloodletters are a 2 person assassin/espionage group that was created as a collaboration between the C.I.A. and Navy in 1960. This group operates freely and unlike other parts of the military/intelligence community that report straight to the President, this two person group answers to the Speaker of The House. The group's function is to serve as a private intelligence gathering service for congress, watch for suspicious activity within the the military and intelligence community, and to eliminate targets that pose a threat to national security. The bloodletters mainly partake in the latter part of their duties eliminating targets that other agencies cannot and/or will not take out. Usually, the past Speakers have had a hands-off approach as the the group has not used taxpayer money in the past 40 years and provides solid intelligence. The group mainly funds its self through acquiring the financial assets of its targets (don't feel bad these people were human scum) and making offshore investments in the stock market.
The group has a couple of rules.
1.Always protect national security
2.Never cause harm to those that don't deserve it
3.There can only be two bloodletters at any given time
The rule for two bloodletters was created in hopes that if one went rogue the other would eliminate them.
Natalia was recruited to the bloodletters during her third year of medical school. She was at the top of her class at that time and was aspiring to be a neurosurgeon when the attending doctors during her psychiatry rotation did a psych evaluation and they found her obsession with blood and surgery was way too unhealthy. Although generally a nice person Natalia had this type of switch in her. Something that could just make her ruthless and unstoppable. Fearing this could hurt future patients the medical school rightfully and quickly kicked her out.
Not wanting a supervillain in the works, an older bloodletter by the name of Alexander Smith convinced Natalia to join the bloodletters. Alexander needed a new bloodletter as his mentor and fellow bloodletter had to retire due to health issues.
The physical training was effortless for Kayla she was able to learn multiple martial arts and weapons skills like they were nothing. Her medical school knowledge came in handy as she came up with very creative ways to kill people and provide care as an onsite medic for any mission. She also learned hacking and espionage tricks from Alexander, who used to be a programmer.

He is a mad scientist associated with everything from drugs to arms dealing. Intelligence has it that he was making some type of superweapon but they didn't know what. It was their task to kill everyone involved and destroy whatever weapon it was.
It was going well until that night in Berlin. After a seduction mission and acquiring the necessary intel to find Gomez's base Natalia decided to drink the blood of her target, the sister of Dr. Gomez, Camilla, when unknown to her Alexander was being tortured by Gomez himself.
She felt shame knowing that she let her mentor, her father figure die. She wanted revenge. Alexander was the only blood angel to be killed in a mission. The House Speaker advised her not to go alone as there would only be one bloodletter and she should wait for another blood letter to join her. She wanted revenge now.
Dr. Gomez's base was located on an island off the coast of Greece. She infiltrated the island and killed all of the guards. By a miracle, Juan Gomez tranquilized Natalia. She was then hooked up to an old-style torture table.
Natalia woke up and was greeted by that asshole's face.
