“You’ve obviously got a diaper on, so I should probably check you,” the woman says. She sticks a finger down the back of Laura’s diaper. “Ooh, yeah, you need a change. Hang on, I’ll grab the stuff.” She sets Laura on the ground near a pile of stuffed animals and leaves the car. Laura quickly removes her wallet and the dice case and hides them within the stuffed animal pile. The woman comes back.
“Okay, changing time,” the woman mumbles. She lays a changing mat on the floor and lays Laura on her back, in front of all the other kids in the car. Laura blushes profusely as she has her first diaper change in decades. The woman removes her wet diaper, wipes her down, and tapes on a fresh diaper quickly. “There! All clean!”
“Fanks,” Laura chirps. The woman pokes her nose.
“No problem, sweetie!” Laura gets to her feet and toddles back to the pile of stuffed animals. Luckily, the wallet and dice case are still there. Laura puts her items back into her romper for safekeeping and looks up. The woman is gone. A young girl about seven or eight walks over.
“Hi, my name’s Rachel,” the girl says. “If you need something, let me know, and I’ll get a grownup’s help. Okay?” Laura nods. “Cool.” Rachel walks away again.
Laura sits on the floor and looks around the car. She’s got about an hour to kill, but not much she can do.
