The car flew along the country roads in the darkness, Freya driving effortlessly at the wheel. She could barely see around the narrow corners and constant hills; but she didn't need to. In her mind she could see a few seconds into the future; this premonition a part of the perfect driver, stolen from her viewings of the Phantom Menace.
No seatbelt covered her; instead a harness connected to her torso at four points, and kept her stationary despite the intense G-forces she was pulling. Freya was exhilarated, amazed at how effortless this was, and kept pushing the car faster.
"Are you sure this is okay?" Brianna asked, through the car's speaker system. Her virtualization left her with vision through the car's sensors, but no control unless the car was physically switched to autopilot. "I don't want to get wrecked."
"We'll be fine, Brianna. I know you're not going to be able to believe this, but I can see into the future."
"What? How is that scientifically possible?"
"I don't know. Maybe some psionics are technologically possible? I guess the Chronivac's makers would know for sure. But I don't know how to contact-"
"TransDem Labs." she rattled off their contact information. "Hmm.. though this can't be right. There's one too many digits in this phone number."
"Huh.. I thought I searched for that and I couldn't find anything. Well, maybe we can pay them a visit after the race?" Freya asked
"I think I can see it because I am inside the chronivac now. It's listed in this about tab.. oh.. which they forgot to link in the GUI."
"Figures.. we should submit a bug report."
"Already done," Brianna made a ping, having accessed the car's 5G connection. "So... if you can see the future, do you know who wins?"
"I can't see that far ahead. Only a few seconds. But I'm sure I'll win."
"Why don't we try and make that longer?"
"No.. better not. I don't know if it can be, that's just what I chose because of how it was in the movies. But even if it can, wouldn't that mess with my free will and predestination and stuff?"
Brianna would've shrugged if she still had arms. "Maybe."
"Anyway. It wouldn't be as fun if I knew everything. Lets just do our best." Freya answered.
"Alright. But if I may propose some changes? These physical interfaces are inefficient. Why not control me through a neural interface?"
"Like drive with my mind? I don't think that's necessary."
"I'm showing a 250ms lag time between your decision to move and when you actually make the changes."
"Yeah, but I'm deciding those movements five seconds in advance, remember? Plenty of time."
"Hmm... I'm not sure." Brianna grumbled, but was helpless to contradict Freya further.
It was a quiet ride to the race track. Brianna looped around the track, making sure everything was ready for the big race, then parked her car at the pits to let her crew go over the car one more time before the race. Before she left though, she left a little surprise programmed in for them with the Chronivac...
