Just being on the periphery of Wolf Lake was making Zoe sick.
At least now, she understood a little of why. She remembered the failed attempt by Queen Swiftfang, by her mate, to spread the moonlight all over the world. Moreover, she remembered her part in it, and the humans that gunned her down…
Sunlight reflected off the lake surface. For right now, Wolf Lake was like any other ordinary place on Earth. Sunrise, sunset, repeat. In keeping the planet’s flux, the land’s was disturbed. She could only wonder how long it would stay that way.
The nearby gravel was kicked away by a forest green Sentra. She straightened herself as best she could, and exited her car.
She froze at the sight of the woman who approached her. Memories flooded her mind, of chaos and death and rebirth.
“You’re Zoe,” she said, as evenly as possible. “Do you know who I am?”
She knew. More than she could admit to, and much more than the stranger knew…
Amy sat in the midst of her sea of notes. She mulled endlessly over charts and diagrams and calculations of the same strange irregularity, the one she had been subconsciously searching for.
If these findings were accurate, then the moon was due to be full…tomorrow night?
“A week and a half premature from the normal lunar cycle?” She chewed on the end of her pencil. “How could it be possible?”
