Back at the Daniels house, Jeff rubbed his sore head. For some reason it had started aching shortly after he entered Emily's room, but the pain was quickly fading.
"Jeff!" called his mother from down the hallway, "The doctor just called to say that Emily will be ready to come home by Friday! Could you leave one or two of your shirts for her to wear until we can go shopping for new ones?"
"Uh, sure!" he called back. Something felt strange, like he'd just experienced a temporary lapse of memory and his brain was just catching up. He replayed the most recent events in his mind.
He'd woken up back home with his new genitals, Emily had been perhaps a bit too supportive about the whole affair, and then the stone had gone missing. Then, while his parents were busy dropping Emily off at the clinic for her breast augmentation, he had gone into her room to see if Emily had taken the stone.
Sure enough, there it was, laying right on the floor of Emily's bedroom.
Quickly snatching it up, Jeff wondered why he had felt so confused for a second there.
At least he had re-obtained the stone before Emily could use it, potentially dooming herself to live some stranger's life.
Pocketing the stone, Jeff walked back to his room and searched his closet for some old shirts. He had saved his little sister from certain disaster, and a part of him was a little sad that she would never realize it.
He cringed at the thought of what it might have done to her, how it might have left her permanently changed like himself. Or perhaps worse, it could have trapped her in another life for god knows how long.
If the stone had decided to swap Emily into someone else's life forever, would reality adjust so that she never existed? Would Jeff lose all memory of her?
Shuddering at these terrifying hypotheticals, Jeff laid out a pair of his baggy old shirts onto Emily's bed.
