Emily’s eyes struggled to process what she was looking at; where once she had modest but acceptable B cup almost C. she was looking at two bandages that were significantly larger that what she knew she had.
Lifting a shaking hand she gently grabbed the left bandage, as she did she winced as pain lanced through the tender flesh. After the pain calmed down she tried again, this time she didn’t touch them but just tried to get a measurement on what had happened.
As she moved her hand in place under the bandage she was shocked to see that her hand was obscured up to the middle of her thumb if she stuck it up.
Panic started to increases as she looked down.
‘What happened?!’
‘What did they do to me?!’
‘This has to be a dream’
“J-Jeff?! This is not funny what did you do? Where am I? Please come out,” she yelled. And then she waited, but nothing happened, Jeff didn’t pop up and say it was a joke, no one burst through the door with a camera saying “you’ve been pranked!!” She was just alone.
She heard a loud beeping next to her that was just registering, and then she began to hear hurried footsteps walking to the door.
The door burst open and a nurse hurried in.
“Mrs. Saunders? Is everything all right? We heard yelling and then we got an alert that your heart rate is going crazy” she said as she looked over Emily with concern as she walked over the heart rate monitor to look at the readings.
Emily didn’t answer, she couldn’t this had to be a nightmare! But she could feel pain; this was no dream this was real. It was completely illogical but it was real.
A hand reached over and gently grabbed Emily’s hand causing her to jolt at the sudden contact.
“Come on Mrs. Saunders, take a few deep breaths with me.
The nurse breathed in deeply. Held it for a moment while staring down at Emily. Then she released her breathe.
“Come on, Lets just do a couple deep breaths.
Again breathing in, holding it and out.
Breathing in then out.
Finally Emily decided to humor her and started following the nurse’s instructions.
When Emily breathed in she took to deep a breath to fast and felt pain lance across her chest, causing her to spasm in pain for a moment before the pain subsided.
The nurse fiddled with Emily’s I.V. for a moment before she noticed Emily taking a much shallower breathe holding it and breathing out. the nurse grabbed Emily’s hand again before she took a deep breath with her.
They continued doing this for a couple minutes before the heart monitor calmed down with them and was not beeping anymore.
“Feeling better sweetie?” the nurse said sounding concerned as she checking over the bandage and I.V. to make sure everything was still in place.
Emily was feeling calmer but still couldn’t take her eyes off the bandages on her chest; she also couldn’t muster up the strength to speak so she just nodded once.
“You should get some more rest, when you wake up next time we can have the doctor check you out and if everything looks good we might be able to get you out by Friday! Won’t that be exciting?”
Emily didn’t acknowledge the nurse she was preoccupied staring at the bandages again, she did register the comment about the doctor and began thinking of a few choice words she wanted to say to him and maybe a lawyer as well.
Soon she began feeling tired again and in a few minutes she was asleep…
