With Morton seemingly unlikely to fix her, Belle considered her best bet was to get on the flight. Maybe the Traveler's Aid station at the next airport would be more reasonable or she could convince someone from whatever her accommodations were supposed to be Morton made a mistake.
Feeling marginally comfortable with that logic, Belle grabbed the suitcase's handle and headed towards bag check in. The woman there gushed over how responsible Belle was. Only as the bag vanished from view, Belle realized it probably had the destination written on the tag.
Oh well too late to check that now. An airport employee took her through security and sat her behind the desk at the terminal. The staff member there seemed about as thrilled as anyone who suddenly had to babysit some random preschooler.
"Please just stay there and don't touch anything on the desk. You're only my problem for an hour and I don't want a mess."
Belle didn't want to do anything to agitate the man, so she sat there quietly. She tried to pass the time by people watching, but the desk blocked most of her view. Straining to see over grew frustrating, so she gave that up.
After that she tried paying attention to the employee, but he didn't do much of interest. Just occasionally gave a lost traveler directions or typed something into the computer.
With that a bust there wasn't anything to do except reflect on the circumstances that brought her here. One year of working as a teacher after graduating college had been enough to save up money for this trip and all for this mess. She probably should have listened to her sister, Susan, and just used the time off to visit Susan and her family.
That would be quite awkward now. Especially since her nephew was probably bigger than her. At least they were all the way in California and she was unlikely to bump into them.
Well that wasn't fun to think about. At least it killed time it had to be almost time for the flight now.
"Uh Mister?"
"Yes?" He said looking over annoyed to remember her presence.
"How long has it been?"
"5 minutes."
Belle let out a large sigh. 5 minutes? It felt like 5 hours! This was torture! There had to be something to do to kill the time better!
