"What's the note say?" That was Ollie, the question snapping Marty out of his haze for just a moment.
"Nothing. Um, cover for me? I gotta check on something." Marty went to his bunk and started trying to find something to wear, anything to wear. But all there was was the camp uniform. So he quickly put on the shorts and shirt, tying the scarf around his neck without really thinking about it. He couldn't fight every impulse, it was taking most of his will just to keep one idea in his head.
Hell, he couldn't even think of himself as a she!
"Kay, just.. nothing too stupid, okay?" Ollie said as he slipped out of the cabin and to the showers where from the sound of it there was a bit of a shouting match going on between the teen boys. But it was expected the oldest batch of campers would be a bit more rowdy.
Luckily, everyone seemed distracted. Marty made a bolt for it, hopping a litle to gain speed then pumping those new rabbit legs of his to really put some distance between him and the camp. He hoped no one spotted him. He needed to get out of here... to find..
Someone. Someone was missing, he couldn't put a finger on it. Son? Husband? No... Marty didn't have those.
He gave one of his ears a sharp tug, the jolt of pain helping to clear his thoughts. He knew there was a car on the edge of the camp waiting for him. His car. If only he could get there. He got to the parking lot, passing a red pickup he couldn't remember from yesterday. He skidded to a stop. The trail out of camp was there, but no car.
There should have been a..
"Marty! What are you doing?!" The voice had him spinning around to confront the familiar form of his brother, and George did not look happy. "Damn it, Marty, you can't go running off like this. Mom and dad would kill me if anything happened to you."
"Sorry, George, but I.. there should be.." Marty's words were stumbling over each other, his thoughts muddling. The thought he had worried his brother making him feel ashamed and overwhelming everything else. They were the closest to each other among the siblings, probably because of their shared love of sports, and both being gay. George was the first one Marty told when he figured it out. The thought of doing anything to upset his older brother made him want to crawl in a hole.
George took Marty by the shoulders, then took one of his ears in his paw like Ollie had done. "You don't feel like you're running a temperature. Maybe I should take you to the first aid hut just to be safe."
"No, sorry, bro. I just needed to stretch my legs a little, get in a good run." Marty knew it was an excuse, but, why had he run out here?
"Well, save it for the obstacle course." George sighed and started escorting his brother back to the camp. "You're lucky Alex didn't see you.." George cut off as just at that moment the badger was already headed in their direction as they left the parking lot and into the camp proper.
"George! Everything okay?" Alex said, his worry not as severe as the older rabbit's had been, but still notable.
"Yeah, we just needed a brotherly heart to heart, nothing to worry about." A look passed between the two young men, leaving Marty wondering what was going on for a moment. "Go on to the dining hall, I'll see you at obstacle this afternoon."
Marty nodded and headed off to where he could already see his cabin mates getting in line for breakfast, slipping in next to Ollie. When he looked back his brother was nodding to Alex and parting ways, only to head over to his boyfriend Todd. Why did something about that monkey bother him. He was kinda cute, and he could see why his brother was into him. But something about him just made Marty's nose itch.
"Stare at your brother's boyfriend any harder he's going to get jealous." Ollie joked, though something in the tone of voice sounded like Ollie being jealous as well.
"Don't be stupid." Marty shot back, nudging his friend in the shoulder. The door to the dining hall opened and the campers started flooding inside, only somewhat controlled by the few counselors inside.
