Joey watched his small town go by from his window. If he could frown, he would, he just felt so embarrassed that he looked like this. And he was going to be seen in public. In a hospital. He already expected a number of jokes to be made at his expense, as well as the nurses confusing him for any hospital entertainers. His mom tried to help him ease into the possibility that it was going to be okay. After all, it wasn't peak hospital time, it was dark out, and those who would see you would have a hard time convincing their friends that what they saw wasn't merely a hospital clown.
"It'll be okay, honey. There should be a medical reason why this is happening. Keep your chin up, you're going to be okay. And if there isn't a reason, that's fine too. You'll always be my son, nothing will ever change that"
Joey was grateful that her mother calmed his worries, even though he was laughed at by her a few moments ago. Despite the sadness of looking like this, he at least had his mother there to make him feel as if he was normal, even if it was for a bit. They finally arrived at the only available doctors at this time at night, via the hospital. Joey had to go barefoot as no shoes would fit him as he got out from the back of the car. He seemed some comfort, and his mother would stand my his side, knowing that whatever happens, she was going to protect him.
After some long and painful talk about the possibility of people turning into clowns from the receptionist, they finally got a doctor to actually visit them...
