Pulling into the drive and shutting down his sweet ride, Major Tom retrieves the moon rock, and ventures inside his home. His wife, Denise, barely turns her head to greet him, her attention belonging to the television.
"Hey honey." She says.
"Hello wife." Major Tom replies, walking past her.
Placing his jacket onto the coat hanger, Major Tom takes a seat next to his wife, whom is occupying nearly the entire couch by laying on it. He feels the moon rock in his hands, moving his fingers across the surface. It feels somewhat smooth.. Perhaps that crazy fool named after a famous make-up person that handed over a supposed "Moon Rock" to him in the parking lot was just making the whole thing up.
"Hey babe, check this out. It's a piece of the moon!" Major Tom said, decided that it was indeed real.
"Fantastic." She said, still zoned out.
Major Tom turns his head to the television. Maury Povich! That blasted imbecile parading obese children again. Major Tom would have nothing of it. He stands from his seat, looking for a suitable place to display his moon rock. He decides on the shelf above the television.
Taking down two family portraits, Major Tom places the moon rock carefully above the television. He discards the portraits onto a pile of clothes that has formed at the foot of the stairs.
"Damn it, Tom! What are you doing?" Denise asks, her attention suddenly shifted onto Major Tom's actions.
"I am placing my moon rock onto this shelf. Do you like it?"
"Moon rock? Tom! No one has been to the moon since the sixties, and even that is debatable."
"This is a genuine moon rock! It was given to me by Rick Baker in the parking lot at work!" Major Tom reiterates, somewhat proudly.
"Whatever. Find a spot and nail those into the wall then." Denise says, speaking about the portraits.
As Major Tom climbs onto a stepping stool to nail the portraits onto the wall next to the shelf above the television, the front door opens. His kids, Joy and Brandon enter, having returned home from school.
"How was school, kids?" Denise asks.
"Meh." Replies Brandon.
"I think there's something wrong with my car." Joy says.
"The LeBaron??" Major Tom asks rather urgently, dropping one of the portraits.
"What's wrong with your car Joy?" Denise asks.
"Well, I started it up like usual.. Drove it a couple of blocks, and then smoke started pouring out from under the hood, and forced us to like five miles an hour."
"Tom, can you take it to the mechanic tomorrow?" Denise asks.
"Why me? I have an important NASA job. You sit at home and watch Maury Povich all day long." Major Tom says, retrieving the fallen portrait.
Joy sets her backpack on the floor, and sits down for a moment. She sees the large ugly rock above the television.
"What is that?" She asks.
"Oh.. Your father was given a moon rock from some guy in the parking lot at work today." Denise answers.
"Alright.." Joy says, turning her attention to the television.
"Oh no! Those poor obese babies!" She says..
After the Maury episode ends, Denise gets up from the couch, and shuffles into the kitchen to prepare dinner.
"So, Joy.. What do you think of our new moon rock?" Major Tom asks his daughter.
"It's nice dad.." She says, glancing over at it once more.
Something about the rock catches her attention, and she gazes into it, as does her father. This goes on for what seems like seconds, when..
