Before Selina could finish, she heard footsteps behind her. She froze.
“And what are you doing here, little girl?” a voice asked. Selina was lifted into the air and turned around to face the guard that had caught her. “Hmm. You’re wearing a gown. Let’s see where you’re supposed to go.” The guard checked her wrists. “No wristband? Huh. I guess you must have lost it somewhere. Well, we can get you to your crib in no time, don’t worry.”
The guard carried Selina through the hospital. Eventually, they arrived at the front desk. Even though the hospital was in lockdown, someone was still there.
“Any luck?” asked the unlucky woman manning the front desk.
“With finding the woman? No, not yet. All I found was this little girl.” The guard deposited Selina on the desk. “Looks like she lost her wristband. Think you can take care of her while I get back to finding the intruder?”
“Not a problem,” the woman said.
“Great. Thanks.” The guard rushed away. The woman turned to Selina. “All right, let’s get you where you’re supposed to be, honey. What’s your name?” Selina wasn’t completely sure what she was planning on doing now, but she knew she wasn’t going to give her real name.
“Ann,” she squeaked out.
“Ann…” The woman typed her name into the computer. Selina held her breath, wondering what would happen now.
