Jennifer was now 13 years old. She had stopped Gymnastics last year after winning gold in a acrobatic competition and devoted more time towards hockey. Grade 9 would also be her last year in piano lessons as well. She was getting fairly good though. Her school hockey team did have some great news in her grade 9 year though by winning her regional competition. As congratulations her school held a pizza party for the team.
Her sewing was getting pretty nice though, as this was her fifth year. She had made her own Halloween costume the previous year, and planned to go cosplay this year at a comic convention. She started doing drawings for friends as well as they started talking to her about their dungeons and dragons characters.
In grade 8 an opportunity had come to join the flag party and Jennifer jumped at it, having enjoyed drill the year before. A bond had developed between her and one of the horses over her time in equestrian club, and now that she was in grade 9 she wanted to join the horse flag party.
In academic circles she was struggling, owing to time spent in sports instead of studying. It was clear though, that while she lacked interest in social or math, she had a clear interest in English language arts and science. She asked plenty of questions as they learned about chemicals and DNA that year in science.
When she came back from school over the summer, Susan gave her a hug. They celebrated the year and went on a road trip across the country to see new sights as a gift for grade 9 graduation.
