In August before school started, Jennifer was given her first phone by her mother. She did not particularly want one, find that the school pay phone was sufficient, but as it turned out it was helpful.
In Grade 12 She had become the RSM of her schools cadet program, a great honour. It allowed her to plan some field training exercises, and even teach some single lectures.
She stopped taking history classes and mathematics, instead concentrating on her twin enjoyments of English and science in the core subjects. She took grade 12 English and physics, and grade 11 biology and chemistry. Further she took grade 12 mechanics, grade 11 and 12 foods, and tried grade 10 drama. As it turns out, it was something she enjoyed.
Many of the same people she had been selling costumes to were in the drama class and so she already knew many of the people in that scene. That became something she wanted to try one day.
In June Jennifer graduated from high school for the second time. The first time as Jacob, and now as Jennifer. The event was joyful and solemn. Saddening because it meant leaving friends behind. Joyous because of the opportunities laying ahead.
Over the summer, with hockey season done, Jennifer finished her apprentice program, and did some off side community theatre with her friends from Drama. In addition, she learned she had been drafted for one of the National Women’s Hockey Teams next year. Susan was extremely happy about the news.
