"Akira how was the lesson?"
Darren and the others turned, surprised to see Yuriko waiting in the living room. "Ms. Yuriko how are you? I'm surprised you're awake."
Yuriko giggled, a small smile spreading across her face. "You've been gone a couple of hours Darren," she said. "One of the dangers of time travel." Darren and the others simply gaped as Yuriko gazed at them. As her eyes fell on Crystal, her eyes went wide. "Darren," she asked. "Could you and Crstal join me in my study?"
Darren and Crystal now followed Yuriko into her study, the elderly wizard closing the door as they now sat at her desk. "So," Yuriko sighed. "I take it everything you've seen so far has been...confusing."
"A bit," Crystal shrugged. "I mean I had know idea Darren could do magic or that he knew, what was Akira again? A kitsune?"
Yuriko nodded, studying the girl carefully before looking at Darren. The teenage boy had a sheepish look on his face. Yuriko remembered how he had considered altering Crystal's form before she intervened. It appeared that now she would be revealing Crstals history.
"Crystal," Yuriko stated. "What can you tell me about your family?"
"I dont know," Crystal shrugged. "My folks are pretty normal."
"What about your grandparents or even your great grandparents."
"My moms parents live in town," Crystal stated. "My dads parents live in Oregon. As far as my great grandparents, they died before I was born. Except my great grandmother, she died when I was 4. Alot of people say I look like her."
"And she was on your father's side correct?"
"Yeah how did you know?"
Yuriko nodded, slowly standing as she now opened a cupboard behind her desk. The wizard now picked up a small medallion, an image of a tree engraved into the metal. "Crystal I'd like you to hold this."
Crystal gave Yuriko a curious look as the elderly woman placed the medallion in her hand. "So what is this," Crystal asked.
"This," Yuriko stated. "Is an ancient emblem of one of the great families. Your about to learn something very special about your family."
Crystal was still confused, gazing at the small metal. The teen girls eyes went wide as the medallion glowed. "Ow it shocked me," she exclaimed as she dropped the medallion. Crustal now rubbed her hand before looking back to Yuriko, something seemed off. "Did you giysbget taller?"
Darren's jaw dropped as he gazed at Crystal. The teenage girl was now rapidly shrinking before his very eyes. At first Crystal was confused before gasping in shock. "Oh my god I'm shrinking," she yelled, the now 4 foot tall teen glared at Darren. "Are you doing this?!"
"What no," Darren replied defensively. Crystal furrowed her brow as she took stock of herself. She was rapidly approaching 3 feet in height, thankfully her clothes her clothes seemed to be shrinking with her. Still the teen now found herself dwarfed by her surroundings, her legs dangling several inches off the floor. "Well somebody did it," she yelled in a voice that was rapidly rising in pitch. "People dont just start shrinking."
Crystal frowned, crossing her arms over her shrinking chest as she continued to dwindle. The now 2 foot tall girl forced to stand on her chair in order to see over the desk. "Why is this happening," she whined.
"I can answer that," Yuriko stated. "Tell me Crystal. What can you tell me about your father's side of the family?"
"I dont know," Cryatal shrugged. "Dad always liked the outdoors and grandma and grandpa like camping. Just how small am I going to get?"
Yuriko looked down at the girl, seeing she had now passed 18 inches in height and was quickly approaching 12 inches. "Not too much longer," Yuriko stated. "The medallion unlocks latent abilities. Do you have any interests in the fantastical Crystal?"
Crystal blushed fiercely as she craned her neck up towards Yuriko. "I um like to collect crystal dragons and other figurines," she said meekly. "But no one knows about that, it's so embarrassing!" Yuriko simply nodded watching as Crystal passed below a foot in height.
Crystal couldnfeelnheraelf going pale as she looked at the gigantic figures that were Darren and Yuriko. The teen couldn't be more than 6 inches tall now. Her only consolation was that her clothing had shrank with her, if she had actually shrunk out of her clothes she felt she would of died of embarrassment. "I think it stopped."
"Are you okay Crystal," Darren asked softly as he stared at the 6 inch tall girl. Crystal nodded, clutching herself fearfully. "I think so," she whispered. Crystal paused, her brow furrowing as she tried to scratch her back. "My back feels funny."
Darren and Crystal now gasped as a pair of gossamer wings sprang of Crystal's back. The girl gasped, spinning as she tried to get a better look. From what Crystal could tell, they almost looked like dragonfly wings.
Crystal let out a startled scream as her wings began to beat, the teen flailing around as she began to hover a short distance off the ground. "Oh my gosh I'm flying," she exclaimed. "How is this possible!"
Darren now turned to Yuriko wanting answers, the elderly wizard looking at the two of them. "Crystal's great grandmother was Fae," she said. "A fairy who decided to stay in the mortal world. Since then, she has passed down her genes to her ancestors. First her daughter, the her daughters son and finally to Crystal."
"Wait my dads a fairy," Crystal exclaimed, causing Darren to snicker. Crystal and Yuriko both sighed as they shot Darren a look.
"Sorry," Darren said sheepishly. "But it was kinda funny."
"Boys," Yurilo and Crystal sighed.
"Yes Crystal,: Yuriko stated. "The family on your father's side is Fae. However, their abilities and magic have remained latent within your great grandmother's descendants. The medallion I had you hold unlocked those latent abilities."
Crystal nodded, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. The teenage girl now forced her wings to flap harder, causing the girl to soar into the air. "Woohoo I'm a fairy!"
Yuriko grinned, as Darren simply watched in slack jawed wonder as the girl he had had a crush on now began to soar majestically around Yurikos study.
