You giggle to yourself as you tell the nurse you want to get an arm cast. It’s silly and stupid, but if nothing else I’ll make a good story to laugh at later. And everyone has good memories of their classmates signing a cast, so it makes sense. Sorta, anyway.
You’re brought back to a medium sized room with an examination table and told to take a seat while another nurse comes to put on the cast. You don’t have to wait long before a nurse with her hair in a bun comes to start her work.
She looks at your paperwork and asks, “So you want an arm cast, from the hand to above the elbow, right? Is there a medical need or not, it’ll affect how I do this.”
You answer and as she begins working, she goes over procedure for you, what to and not to do with it.
During this, the nurse from the front leads another guy in. The guy is probably two or three years older than you, so maybe a college senior, and rather athletic looking. He has sandy-blond hair and a youthful, handsome face. He’s walking on crutches because both his legs from the upper thighs all the way down and including his toes are in casts. Though it looks awkward and bent in odd ways at his feet. He smiles at you and takes a seat in the empty chair.
“When you fish putting on that cast, this guy wants his off.” says the nurse from the front.
“I’ll take care of it.” says the one working on you.
The guy looks at you and smiles, “Hi, I’m Chase. Mind if I ask what that’s for?”
You blush, embarrassed to tell him. “I just thought it would make a funny story back home. I’m Jacob, by the way.”
He laughs, but in a way that makes you feel better. “I understand that, these are a stupid bet with my friend yesterday. It’ll be good to get them off, they itch like hell so I hope you don’t regret it.”
Before you can say anything else, the nurse steps away from you and removes her gloves, “Alright, that’s done. I just need you to wait here a few minutes to make sure everything sets properly.”
As she gets her stuff and preps Chase, you examine your newly-casted arm. The white material feels hard and goes from an inch above your left elbow down to your knuckles with a hole for your thumb on the side.
You try and talk with Chase over the sound of the saw. He seems like a cool guy and invites you to hang with him and his friend this afternoon when you two leave here. You agree and are discussing the different attractions when he goes silent.
It takes a minute to notice what he’s looking at. The nurse has his casts off but the legs that were freed aren’t normal. The his legs where the casts were are coated in caramel-colored fur and instead of feet his legs end in hooves.
“What’s going on? This is wrong!” Chase has wide, panicked eyes as he asks the nurse. But she’s already gone.
