Miles had no idea why it was so important for him to get home on time, which wasn't even HIS home, but in his heart of hearts, it just felt completely urgent that he get home quick to see Nellie's father. He felt all sorts of weird apprehension and anxiety about it, despite not knowing who this man even was.
When twilight was approaching, and the sun was beginning to set, Miles had finally approached the front lawn of Nellie's house. Out of breath, he calmed down a bit and composed himself, dusting off his clothes in order to look presentable.
"God, what a great day that was" thought Miles wistfully to himself, who had been happier than he had been in years. He was starting to wonder if he had been born too late, and he really should have been a kid in the 1950s instead of the 2010s. Sure, they didn't have the internet or video games, but things just felt right here. Maybe if he really had somehow time traveled, he should stay? He briefly wondered if this Nellie girl was now trapped in his body in 2021, and worried about the culture shock that she was going through.
A pair of flashing lights appeared that were coming down the block. Miles covered his forehead with his hand to get a better look. The car was a red 1952 Corvette Stingray, and the person driving it was Nellie's father. Miles remembered his face from all the photographs inside.
Nellie's dad parked the car right in front of Nellie's home, turned off the engine, stepped outside the car, walked up to Miles, put his hands on her shoulders and asked “Hey princess. How do you like your new birthday present?”
