"Daddy! Welcome home" Miles said as he hugged this older man. He knew that Nellie always missed her father when he was gone on his trips, and so he made sure Nellie's dad knew that.
"Of course! I would never miss your birthday weekend!" James said. "Come on. Let's have dinner."
Nellie and Jack went inside, where mother Vivian was finishing prepping dinner.
"And here I thought my precious daughter would be late again." Mother laughed.
"Who me? Never." Miles said.
Soon, dinner was served, and Miles chatted to Jack and Vivian about Nellie's school work, his birthday weekend, and how much he enjoyed Singing in the Rain. Near the end of the dinner, Miles announced to his family that Thomas had finally asked him to the dance.
"That's wonderful, honey!" Jack, "Thomas has some good taste."
"A perfect birthday ending." Miles said.
"Well... not quite the ending..." Vivian said, as she got up. When she came back, a beautiful necklace was in her hands.
"Happy birthday, from us, to our most precious child." Vivian said.
"Thanks mom. Thanks dad." Miles said. He suddenly felt very emotional.
Vivian smiled as she walked over and clasped the necklace onto Miles's neck.
