Pleasure Island

Midnight run

added by codify 18 years ago A BM

"No," answered Alisa. Her heart was beating rapidly as she looked at the rising full moon; it trapped her attention and called her away from the fire, into the darkness. "I... don't feel much like sleeping. I want... to run."
The paladin beside her laughed. "That's funny," she remarked coyly. "I thought that clerics of Pelor followed the sun, not the moon."
Alisa touched the solar pendant which hung around her neck. She had never felt so attracted to the forest at night before, it was true... in fact, she was even a little afraid of the dark. It was part of the reason for her choosing to play a servant of a sun-god. But something was different tonight. There must be a reason for it, she thought.
"I'm still hungry," she said, somewhat irritably. Trail mix just didn't seem appealing to her. She wanted something... warm... fresh...
"Well, I won't argue with you," said her paladin companion, who rose gracefully to stand beside her. "I'm hungry too. Hmph. The moon is so bright tonight, I guess we didn't need the fire after all. I can see everything perfectly. And we don't need the warmth, either... I feel positively hot."
Alisa nodded. She could hear her own beating heart so loudly, could feel a few beads of sweat creeping down her skin beneath her simple travelling clothing. Her eyes met the golden eyes of her companion's... nothing seemed strange about that, just beautiful... and wordlessly, the two agreed. Leaving their discarded armor behind, the two adventurers stepped away from the fire and into the forest. At first, they were walking along the pathless way, their pointed ears twitching at every sound. But soon, they were running, a fast, easy lope through the forest, crouched forward. Their unbound hair streamed behind them as they leapt through the woods; Alisa grinned, baring teeth that felt both very wrong and very right, as she felt the night air caress her as it blew around her face, her hands, her feet... she was finding it faster to run on tiptoe... and into the neck of her thin blouse, cooling her.
Suddenly, she stopped short. Renee ran past her, and then circled around back to her, golden eyes burning under her streaming black hair in the night. She approached Alisa in a crouch, her breath heavy. "What is it? What's wrong, Sister?"
Alisa was too preoccupied to notice that her companion had called her Sister, too drunk on the intoxicating wine of the full moon to wonder why. "I... smell something," she said, her voice almost a growl, as she panted excitedly.
