Back on the bus, Hailey did indeed find a backpack with her name on it. Looking through the class list she sighs. She can already picture how much homework she was going to be stuck doing. It almost made her wish she'd picked preschool at least then she'd have an easy time. Instead she was going to be stuck with balancing of bunch of horrible schoolwork with the much more interesting sports. Another thing she noticed is most of her peers were left older than her which made her glumly consider the rumors of scholarship students getting put at disadvantages.
On the way back, Professor Lopez explained that their families would believe they were participating in an education study. Great, Hailey thought more boring stuff to deal with. The bus ride back took forever because of a heavy storm.
After what seemed like forever, the bus pulled in to the Havenrock parking lot where a large number of cars were waiting. Hailey jumped up and shoved her way into the throng of other students trying to get off the bus. Stepping off Hailey looked around unsure where she was supposed to be going, until she spotted what looked like her actual mom's car a short ways away.
Hurrying through the rain, Hailey finds it is in fact her actual mom waiting for her. Pulling open the passenger door she finds her 11 year old brother Max had already taken the passenger seat.
"I was here first," he said.
Hailey was about to remind him that the oldest always gets to sit in the front, until she realized that they were now twins. Sighing she climbed into the back.
As she sits down her mom said, "Hi dear how was the orientation?"
"It was super long and boring."
On the drive home, her mom chastised Hailey for her lack of enthusiasm about this study which would look good on her transcript. Once they arrived at the house, Hailey went to her room to get away from the nagging, only to find "her" room was now clearly a shared room between her and Max. She slumped onto the bottom level of the bed. This was already getting old.
