“You don’t have enough years left for me to fix you, sweetie,” Ashlee said. Laura’s mouth dropped open.
“What?” she squeaked.
“Let me explain. In order to return someone’s lost years, I take three of the years they have left and magically multiply them to get to the proper age.”
“I’m four!” Laura protested. She held up four fingers to demonstrate.
“Yes, but when I take three years away, there has to be three left.” Ashlee shrugged. “Magic can be a bit fussy and particular.” Laura’s heart dropped to her feet.
“You can’t do anything for me?” she whispered. Ashlee smiled.
“Now, I didn’t say that! Since my dice caused you to have to grow up again, I’ll make sure that you are taken care of.” Ashlee eyed Laura carefully. “The first part of that is fixing your outfit.” Ashlee snapped her fingers. Sparkles appeared on Laura’s clothes. When the sparkles faded, her overalls had been replaced by a cute, pink sundress and white sandals. “There!” Laura looked at her clothes. They were clean and nice, but she had one concern…
“You-!” she gasped as she lifted the skirt of her dress to reveal proper training pants, thicker than the underpants she had been wearing before.
“I just had the spell dress you in what best suited you,” Ashlee said. “Apparently, you aren’t quite potty trained enough to be without them.” Laura let go of her dress with a sigh.
“Great.”
“Cheer up, cupcake. Now that your outfit is fixed, I’m going to fix your situation. Where do you want to live?” Ashlee asked. Laura thought long and hard about who she wanted to raise her back to an adult.
