Andrew was intrigued if anything by this vending machine's claim, and decided to test it out. After looking through the various "flavors", he went with a pink colored can with a large fantasy looking egg on it called "Monster Egg Soda".
There were 3 reasons for him choosing this one. The first was that he enjoyed the like-named energy drink, the second was that it was the one that caught his attention the most, and the last was because of a theory he manufactured inside his head about what this one would do; which was have him hatch an egg, and raise whatever came out of it as a pet and/or something like a creature to battle for him.
He pressed the code for it and retrieved it from the machine. With nothing else to lose he downed the entire can right on the spot. Nothing happened initially, but after a couple of seconds, a user interface popped up in his vision. However, the first thing that is displayed for him was a warning.
"Caution! User does not meet current requirements for intended use. System can make appropriate adjustments to correct error automatically. Does the user give the system permission to make required changes? Please note that until the completion of this entire simulation/game is achieved, all necessary changes will be considered permanent. And that if the simulation/game is not completed in less than 7 days, all changes made by the system could become permanent."
"What the hell? Wow, way to sell me a broken game. Fuck, and I spent like 25 dollars on this too. But at least the game seems to be able to fix itself, which is kind of neat. Yeah, fuck it, make the damn changes. I spent my money already, so I'm not going to just waste it." Mumbled Andrew to himself, approving the system to begin making the patch it seemed to need in order to work.
"User permission acknowledged, beginning update to user.
etc: 11 hours, 59 minutes, 55 seconds.
Please ensure that the user is asleep durring the final (1) hour(s)."
The display then became translucent and shrunk down to the bottom left of his vision and only displayed the time remaining. "12 hours? I have to wait a full 12 god damn hours? This is such a rip off! This means it is going to be finished until after 5am!" Complained Andrew after checking his watch. If he hadn't tossed away the can already like an idiot, he would have looked for a phone number to call on it. He couldn't see one on any of the cans in the machine though, so he just gave up and went to play some other games before heading home. He set an alarm for 15 minutes after the game update's approximate completion time, and only so that he doesn't ruin anything by waking up durring its last hour, which it required him to be asleep for. At least the interface didn't display too brightly with his eyes closed.
When his alarm went off, Andrew woke and turned it off without even opening up his eyes. He was so tired, and felt weird, something was different about him, but he just couldn't figure it out without opening his eyes and checking for himself.
