With previous Mother's Days, Dinosaur City hasn't had as much reason to celebrate it. It was still a very new city and there weren't many mothers living there. Many of the female Dinotopians had been spinsters before they converted and were just starting to hook up with new mates. Few couples had produced any eggs since coming here. One very obvious exception were Annie and Ralph. Annie was living up to the Maiasaura name and was not only taking good care of Jake, but his younger siblings. They were getting to be more of a handful as they got bigger, but Ralph was also doing his fair share.
But this year, there was more reason to celebrate Mother's Day. Now that all Dinotopians have been immunized against the coronavirus, they've felt far less reason to hold back. Quite a few Dinotopian couples were now expecting their first batch of eggs, if they hadn't been laid already. As with other egg-laying Animalians, the pregnancy process was rather unusual compared to natural egg-layers. The embryos begin developing in the mother's womb during the first few months. Unlike with human mothers, Dinotopians don't carry their babies full-term, but lay their eggs around halfway through the development. The fetuses remain in the eggs for another few months before hatching. Egg-hatched Animalians tended to be smaller than human babies when they're first born, but they grow quickly at first until they're approximately the same size as a human baby of the same age. The whole process is quite similar to marsupial reproduction, showing how primitive marsupials are compared to other mammals.
The technical/biological issues asides, it was clear that Dinosaur City was going to have a population boom, and it wasn't just because of the new upper class moving in. Many prominent couples in Dino City were expecting hatchlings, including Candace and William Tarr. Though probably the most noteworthy parents-to-be will be Heather and Jeremy Green. Truthfully, the two have them had known for a while, though they had kept relatively quiet about it. Heather still had a notorious reputation, considering what happened when she first came to Lyre. And Jeremy also had a bad rap for enabling and going behind the backs of the other scientists at Horizon Labs. They've both been forgiven by now, but they didn't want their children branded because of their own pasts. And they certainly didn't want to be in the middle of a media circus. There were plenty of sleazy people who'd happily barge into a couple's private life, especially if said couple had any notoriety. And simply roaring at them wouldn't improve things. Heather was glad she had the support of her grandmother, Tyra, who was also carrying her first batch of eggs. She just wished Tyra wouldn't go into detail about how she got knocked up.
