The Magic Shop

Childish Glee

added 2 years ago A AR BM S

You sport a smile purer than you have had in years and turn to the mirror. You don't bother to change your mountain lion-ish form, since you like the fur, tail, and ears. You look like a character from one of the Saturday morning cartoons you enjoyed as a child. And speaking of childhood...

As you concentrate your mind, you will your body to repair the damage of aging on a cellular level; that is, to youthen. Bit by bit, the shape of you body begins to alter. Your hips and chest shrink, and eventually, so does your height. Your face becomes rounder, and your limbs a bit gangly. You finally stop when reflected back at you in the mirror is a furry humanoid figure about the age of 8 or 9. The expression on your face is age-appropriate, even though your mental age is much older, simply because of the sheer wonder you feel. You can't help but let out a childish giggle as you stare at yourself.

As a child might, you turn to the only adult in the room, wanting to share your glee. Jinn smiles back at you with a slightly patronizing but generous grin. Perhaps it is a side effect of your age change, but you run over to where Jinn is sitting in your desk chair and unreservedly throw your arms around her neck, despite the fact that you are nude but for your fur. You have the appearance of a child now, anyway. Humoring you, Jinn puts her arms around you, lifts you up, and sets you on her knee.

"This is great!" you laugh, your voice slightly higher and less mature. You know Jinn is not a human, but at this point, you are not sure if you could be considered human anymore either. You feel a sense of camaraderie with Jinn who is the only non-mortal you know.

"You are quite quick to adjust, Master. I am quite impressed," Jinn strokes your ego, and even though you know it might be empty flattery, you still grin foolishly. However, you are still curious.

"Does this mean I can never die?" you ask Jinn with a seriousness that belies your babyish face.

"I believe you are effectively immortal, Master, unless someone should wish for your death," Jinn replies thoughtfully. Your tail hangs as you lose yourself in thought. You still have a wish left, and you could make yourself entirely immortal, but do you want that? You just want safety, not to be hanging around in an empty patch of universe if, for example, the earth were destroyed. In fact, there may come a point where you want to use your own wish to allow yourself to die.

"Jinn, what happens if I don't use my third wish? Will I lose you and the lamp?" you ask curiously.

"As long as the lamp remains effectively in your possession without you having used your third wish, Master, I will remain by your side," Jinn answers, then preempts your next question. "By 'effectively,' I mean that it must not fall into the possession of another."

"So if I hid the lamp..." you prompt.

"If no one finds the lamp and claims it as their own, you shall be my master, Master," Jinn confirms. A grin slowly creeps across your face as you ponder the possibilities.

"Then we can play together for a long time, can't we, Jinn?" you ask with an impish smirk, swinging your legs and swishing your tail.
