Eric did want to use the computer but it was only to check the internet for any reference to 'A Game of Change'. She found a lot of references but none immediately matched her predicament. She continued to plough through.
Meanwhile the other girls (but not so much Belinda) were attaching jewellery to Jen. Maureen had the bright idea to thread Jen's grandma's many brooches onto a necklace. She took on the task while Amy helped place other necklaces over Jen's head and bracelets on her arms. When finished Jen did look like some kind of rapper.
When Jen was satisfied that she was now wearing the most valuable decorations. They decided it was time to start the game.
Everyone took a seat and Maureen suggested Amy who was closest to the box, could take the first toss. Amy picked up the dice and the girls watched in wonder as tokens of different designs slide across the board to the starting square.
"I guess I just toss?" said Amy "Are we ready?"
"Go ahead" said Maureen.
Amy tossed. 3 and 2. A token moved 5 places landing on a green square.
Before Amy could read the card that flipped over, Nikki observed "Look! There are six tokens but only 5 of us"
"I guess Emily might be playing after all" observed Maureen. "What does it say Amy?"
"A feature of yours that you admire. Something your friends would desire. Choose wisely, you never know, to where the wish will go"
"A feature of your own" said Maureen
"Well clearly not my complexion. What about my hair? That was my first wish yesterday" She looked at the other participants.
"Yeah you have wonderful hair. I would be happy to have your hair" said Nikki
"My hair it is then" Amy handed the dice to Jen.
Jen tossed 4 and 5 also landing on green. She read the card that flipped over. "As you tossed over eight, Choose a trait from your mate,
One you like, left or right, Don't be shy, have a try"
"I had this same card yesterday. I chose Eric's height then but I want to choose something different today. I guess I could choose something from either Amy or Nikki. It just says 'trait'. Do you think that could be something abstract? Like Nikki's elegance?"
"Worth a try" said Amy "Nikki is the essence of elegance"
"Well that's what I wish for then. Nikki's elegance.
"My toss then" said Nikki as she scooped up the dice. She tossed a 1 and 2 Also landing on green "A low total means a small result. From the player next choose something tiny"
Nikki looked at Belinda who was next around the table. "Something of Belinda's that's tiny? How about her waist?" She looked at the other girls for approval and got a series of nods. "Belinda's waist then" She picked up the dice and handed them to Belinda.
Ted/Belinda didn't really want to play but she was on a promise from Maureen. The way she saw it she had no choice. She tossed and got a double 3. A token moved to a green square and a card flipped over "As you have tossed a double, Your must go to the trouble. Of naming a feature. An item of dress. From each other Player"
"Choose my jewellery!" Jen almost shouted across the table at Belinda.
"Ah, Um, Okay. I'll choose Jen's jewellery" She handed the dice to Maureen
"We had almost the same card yesterday but this time it specified an item of dress. Interesting" said Amy
"You have to choose something from each of us dear" chimed in Maureen. "An item of clothing"
"Arr. Yeah. I suppose I have to" she looked at the others. "Can you help me out here? I don't know"
"Amy's usually good for nice underwear" suggested Nikki.
"Nikki is wearing a lovely dress" suggested Maureen.
"Maureen has a Prada handbag" suggested Amy. "I'd love a duplicate of that"
"That's what I wish for then" said Belinda/Ted unenthusiastically. The last thing she wanted was to win those wishes.
"My toss then" said Maureen. She threw a double 6. Like the others she landed on green "You tossed maximum so now you get to choose a wish. A mental change. A change in attitude"
"A mental change? A change in attitude? What does that mean?" pondered Amy
"I know. I was just thinking that. I was resenting Belinda not really joining in the spirit of the game and as for Emily? Well I won't say anymore. I just wish they would show some enthusiasm. I want them to behave like the young woman they are, rather than as a man in a woman's body"
"Well I certainly hope I don't get that wish" said Ted/Belinda
"Exactly my point" said Maureen "Here are the dice Amy"
But much to Maureen's consternation the dice appeared to be stuck to her hand. She could not pass them to Amy. "What's going on? Have I not finished my turn? I wished for a mental change like the game asked"
"You did but perhaps the game thinks it's Eric's turn rather than Amy's" suggested Nikki "Look the 6th piece on the starting square is glowing"
"It is! I think your right. How amazing!" said Jen
"But Eric doesn't want to play" said Amy
"Too bad for Eric. Besides she is called Emily for the night. I'll see if I can hand the dice to her" Maureen left the table and walked to the room Eric/Emily was in.
