Mandy continued to look through the app left open on the boy’s phone, deciding it was better to waste her time with this than getting insecure about her own looks. Out of the options presented, Mandy chose the “change a word” option and a new screen with a sentence (the same one Ty had just changed) appeared on the phone.
“The shoe store is mainly for teenage customers.”
“Strange.” Mandy thought to herself, wondering how the app had perfectly described her store to her. Thinking back to the “change a word” prompt she saw, Mandy pondered what word in the sentence to change by thinking of what she’d like to change in her actual life.
Selling shoes has always been a good business for her and Ty, but the two have also talked about venturing into other businesses. Looking at all the other stores located in the mall, dress, sports, makeup, etc. What would’ve it been like if Ty and her were the owners of another store?
Mandy’s mind then began to think of the customers she serves; teenagers. There was nothing overtly wrong with teenage customers, but they had quite the tendency to be rude or disrespectful, at least in Mandy’s eyes and dealing with them always made her feel slightly dejected. Perhaps if the store catered to a different demographic, she’d feel a bit more comfortable working her job.
At last, Mandy had decided on a word to change and what to change it to. Although she knew this app didn’t have the power to change anything, it was to think “what if…?” for a moment.
However, what Mandy didn’t know was that the app DID have the power to change something. By changing the sentence, Mandy would unknowingly change the lives of her, Ty, the customers shopping and Jason who was still in the store, about to make his way out.
