“What the fuck do we do? This thing is spreading on us?” inquired Lindsay as everyone scared a little bit, some like Stacy just looked down at her scales which where on the top of her feet, while her girlfriend Barbara attempted to pull at the scales and actually ripped one off. However a small amount of blood and a lot of pain was all the effect and that scale grew back faster.
“Everyone calm down!” ordered James as all eyes looked to him. “We have to call a doctor.”
“They will either think we are high; we are pulling their leg them or worse case they will lock us up and carry out some type of experiment on us.” Countered Oscar
“Call your sister.” Interrupted Elizabeth as James eyes widened, and he nodded his head.
“What will his sister do to help us?” inquired Barbara
“My sister works for the CDC and better, yet she is in town for a conference, we can trust her.” Announced James as he went for his phone only to remember that he had broken it. His girlfriend was a step ahead of him as she pulled out her phone and went to face time James’ oldest sister.
It took a few rings but after a while an image of an older woman, in her early 30s to late 20s appeared. She had long blonde hair, the same shade as her younger brother James with the same shade of blue eyes. She had a tan vest top with a white doctor’s lab coat hanging on the chair behind her.
“Elizabeth what is going on? You don’t normally call me, so what has my dumb brother done now and how can I fix it?” inquired the women with a playful grin on her face.
“Sarah we have a problem.” Said Elizabeth with some fear in her voice, fear which got through to Sarah.
“What is wrong?” inquired Sarah as Elizabeth with some help from James and the other gave her the story, how they were eating breakfast and preparing for class how a crystal shard fell and released some sort of energy and how they became merfolk for a moment before turning back into humans but it was slowly spreading turning them into merfolk again.
“Ok…is this some kind of prank?” inquired Sarah
“No….God, no.” said James as he showed her the scales and one even came in before her eyes.
“Ok….this better not be some kind of joke if it is I will make you pay.” Said Sarah “Stay inside I’ll be right over.”
It was the longest 15 minutes of their lives as Sarah drove to their place and came walking up to the front door. She paused at the glass door as Elizabeth and James came to the door.
“Do you want to open up for me?” inquired Sarah, she could see the fear but this was impossible.
“But shouldn’t we isolate ourselves?” inquired Elizabeth, it was clear Sarah did not believe them, it was hard for them to believe it themselves
“Ok…if you want to take this joke that far, we can do it this way.” Said Sarah as walked over to a small outdoor table under the patio and opened up a briefcase. She pulled out a laptop, some kind of scanner and a couple of vials and needles.
“James you are a 2nd year premed you should be able to draw blood, right?” inquired Sarah as her brother nodded. “Good, stay back.”
She passed a couple of vials and needles through the mail slit and stepped back allowed James to take it. She put on gloves just to make a show and watched as her brother drew blood from himself, his girlfriend and others labeling them as he went.
“If you wanted me to show off my new toy all you had to do was ask not this whole merpeople thing.” Said Sarah “Besides you know how much I love mermaids, is that why you picked them?”
“We didn’t.” cried Stacy as James passed the samples along with the scale which Barbara had ripped off herself back through the mail slit and to Sarah. She took the samples and moved to her computer which was set up in front of the large window. She took out a small sample of her brothers’ blood and put it on a test strip and put it in the scanner.
“This is one of the CDC new field blood machine, it can do DNA tests and test blood for a over 500 different types of blood born illness in a matter of minutes.” Said Sarah as the results popped up. “What
“Unknown creature blood.” It read before giving a breakdown of near matches to the blood. Normally this would help if say an new type of monkey was being looked at in a jungle by a research team.
"Half human, half fish"
“That can’t be right.” Said Sarah as she tried another sample, the same results came up, she tried again and again, then she tried the fish scale and found a match. However it was a match to Barbara’s blood sample.
She was about to try something else when the screen went black, and a message came up.
“Stay where you are, lock down all samples and keep the subject or subjects isolated a full quick response team is in route to your location.” It read along with the logo of the CDC and stranger, yet it showed their location on a google like street map
“What is going on?” inquired James
“I…I don’t know.” Confirmed Sarah
