Sarah continues to confidently lead Alexis toward the camp but was getting worried. The trees and various bushes that only were a slight bother for two teenagers were more of an obstacles for two seven year olds. And both girls were getting tired from the hike.
Sarah carefully checked the log (which she remembered was easy to step over on the way to the cabin) before stepping up onto it. That's when bad luck hit and a bit of bark was too slippery for Sarah and she tumbled off the log. While she could tell that she hadn't broken anything, her ankle hurt from where she stepped too carelessly.
"Sarah, are you okay?" Alexis asked as she scrambled over the log.
"Yes, but it hurts." Sarah tried to prevent tears from flowing. "I wish it didn't hurt so much." She clamped her hands over her mouth but the damage was done. A few more inches lost and Sarah saw Alexis' glasses had disappeared from her face.
At least the pain of the ankle was only slight now. But now the two six year olds were in a bit of a mess as the remaining distance just got longer. And Sarah was feeling more frightened as she became another year younger.
Sarah considered her options and she knew she might have to make another wish.
