CYOTF (New)

Yavarond Half-Elven

Damon walked out of the throne room, lost in thought. His parents... were actually his parents. That is, the King, Roderick, was the spitting image of his birth father, Roger; and the Queen, Alicia, was likewise the same as his mother Alice.

They had called him to discuss his upcoming trip to Marbury Manor, apparently one of a number of estates owned by the royal family, to oversee it and get hands-on experience in governing. That was disconcerting enough -- it hadn't occurred to him until then that being a prince would come with responsibilities. But he had not really been able to concentrate given his feelings at seeing his mother happy and his father alive.

It led him to wonder if here, too, he would be burdened with his older siblings. Tom and Jerry were not his favourite people, though they hadn't been as bad when they were kids and Dad had still been alive. So maybe it wouldn't be so bad to have them around now.

So wrapped up was he that Damon nearly ran into a tall, slender man in bright red and golden robes.

"Pardon me, young lord!" The man said, causing Damon to stumble as he snapped back to reality. The man caught him, a slender hand on the prince's shoulder helping him to regain his balance.

Damon studied him. Other than the fancy robe, and the fact that he stood nearly a head taller than Damon, who was already slightly taller at 5'10" than in his old life, Damon noticed his narrow features, close-cut beard, wide green eyes -- and somewhat pointed ears.

An elf?

"Is something wrong, my lord?" The man asked, concerned. "You seem... lost. Almost as if you don't know me."

"Er... well I..." Of course Damon didn't know him, and he wished he had the genie with him to give him pointers on this new life she had seemingly thrust him into. Only, as he stumbled for some kind of answer, he felt a tickling in his brain. "Lord... Yavarond?"

Yavarond Half-Elven, the court wizard. Somehow the knowledge seemed to be present in Damon's memory, it just needed to be jogged. But he had no time to ponder that while confronted with the mage, who was frowning with worry.

"You haven't been drinking, have you?" Yavarond sniffed. "You look much too well-groomed, and I don't smell any spirits... Has someone hexed you?" He rubbed his beard.

"N-no," Damon stuttered, suddenly terrified of what a mage might be able to uncover about him. And beyond that -- what was he doing here? How did he just wake up in a world that seemingly was made to fulfill his fantasies? -- aside from this nosy wizard.

"I uh... I just have a lot on my mind. Having to get ready to go to, um, Marbury and all that. Besides, who would want to... hex me?"

"A fair point," conceded Yavarond. "As far as I know, the royal family has no enemies capable of that. There are the Wood Elves, of course, but such curses are not their style. So unless you angered a witch during one of your escapades..."

Damon laughed nervously. "I've never met a witch, I'm sure. A wicked witch," he added, seeing Yavarond blink and realising that in this world "witch" was probably a generic term for a type of magician.

The mage patted his shoulder again. "Well, if you are ever troubled or in need of aid, I will do my best to help you. I failed your brother; please the gods I won't let anything happen to you."

He went off on his way, leaving Damon stewing. So apparently he did have at least one brother. Or had...? What had happened to him?

Knowing that he could apparently recall the facts of this new life, he retreated back to his room and tried to focus on the names of his siblings. This yielded the information that his eldest "brother" was here a sister, Thamasa; and his other brother was named Gerhard. He also recalled he had a set of miniatures of his immediate family. Retrieving them from his chest of drawers, he found that looking at them unlocked more memories.

Thamasa had been a gifted mage, much as Tom had been a grade A nerd. She had married another kingdom's prince, and now lived in her husband's realm of Felicia.

Gerhard had been heir apparent and a beloved warrior (and womaniser, much like Jerry the jock). But what had happened to him...?
