"Oh, that's right..." Damon muttered. Ger, as his brother was nicknamed here, had led an army to assault the Wood Elves' Sylvan Kingdom... and never come back.
Damon's realm, the Kingdom of Lightgard, had long contested the Angle -- a triangle of fertile land where the Dreamflower River flowed into the River Licht -- with the Sylvan Realm. And after the Elvenking had begun blockading both rivers, demanding an absurd toll for their use by Lightgarder merchants, King Roderick had declared war with the people's hero -- his son -- leading the vanguard.
Initially the humans had been successful, their ships easily sweeping the rivers clear and Gerhard's forces securing the Angle. However, his head turned by his success, the prince foolishly pushed into the forest without waiting for his father's army to catch up. There the Wood Elves' magic was much stronger, and nearly the entire force was wiped out, with only Yavarond and a handful of battle wizards and clerics being able to escape.
Yavarond confirmed that the Wood Elves had captured Prince Gerhard, though what afterwards happened to them none could say. Menduil, the Elvenking, claimed to be holding him prisoner to ensure the humans kept their side of the peace treaty; but there were rumours that he had been transmogrified into a white stag, or a unicorn to serve as mount to the Elven Prince, or possibly even a tree.
As for the peace treaty, Lightgard renounced all claims on the Angle and promised to never bear arms against the Wood Elves again. In return the Elvenking graciously reduced the toll to a reasonable level.
However conflict still simmered. Not least because of lack of evidence of Gerhard's well-being, but also because the Wood Elves had proceeded to colonise the forests south of the River Licht, which until then had been neutral territory used by the Lightgarders for logging and hunting. The human foresters were now being harassed, and the Elvenking merely scoffed at formal complaints.
That was all very depressing to remember. If it could be called remembering. Damon sighed and put the miniatures away. He felt bad for Gerhard, despite still resenting all the bad things that Jerry had done to him back in his home dimension.
Meanwhile his head ached as it struggled to cope with reconciling his memories of this world with his own identity. If only this could be easier...
"Genie?" He tried calling. But there was no response. He tried several more times, then gave up, deciding that when he ceased existing in his home dimension he'd lost his connexion with her.
Well, what now? He could try "remembering" more facts about his life and his new world... or he could go explore and try to forget the danger and responsibilities he now faced.
