You found yourself holding the policeman's hand as he walked you home. You knew you had to pretend to be the little girl you appeared to be. Your old body was walking on your other side just behind you. The woman inside was doing a good job at pretending to be dazed. Quite likely she really was. At least you knew what had happened. This poor woman had just bumped into someone on the street and found herself in a foreign body.
It was also a foreign feeling walking in a skirt. It flapped against your legs as you walked you could also sense the ponytail your mother had made in Katie's long blonde hair this morning bumping against your shoulder as you stepped. You seemed to need to take two steps for every step the policeman made.
You had tried to explain to the policeman that your parents were not at home but he had insisted on seeing you home safely. You led the way knowing the poor woman in your old body didn't know your house. "Here it is you explained as you came to the front gate" you followed the policeman through. He went to the door and rang the bell. That gave you a chance to talk to your old body however now it was standing upright you could not reach his ear to whisper. Instead you pointed to his pocket and mouthed 'Keys'. He got the hint and fumbled into his pocket pulling out your wallet and keys. There were only two keys. You said out loud "The silver one"
The policeman turned and looked at you "What did you say?"
"I was just reminding John what key to use"
The policeman looked at your apparent older brother "You're not right are you lad. Best go and see a doctor and get your head looked at. Might be concussion" He took the keys off the woman in your old body and inserted the silver key into the lock. The door opened.
You entered the house. Then turned to the policeman "Thank you officer. We'll be right now"
"I'd like to speak to your parents. Where are they?"
"They are visiting my Aunt and Uncle"
"Well can you supply me with a contact phone number?"
"Better I can ring them. John, pass me your phone" you pointed to his other pocket where you kept your phone. The teenage boy reached into his pocket and pulled out a phone passing it to you without hesitation. Quickly you entered your code to unlock the phone and dialled your Mum's number. If the policeman was surprised at a 7 year old's ability to use a phone he didn't show it. Within seconds your mother answered,
"Hi John. What's up is everything alright?"
"Mum it's Katie" easier to pretend to be your sister than try to explain what had happened. "John bumped his head and a policemen has bought us home. He would like to speak with you" You handed the phone to the policeman.
You heard the initial conversation between the policeman and your mother but needed to talk to the woman in your old body more urgently then overhear that conversation. You took your old hand and dragged the new John into your bedroom, shutting the door.
"I so sorry about this. It's my little sister. First she swapped bodies with me. Then I saw her swap with you. She ran off across the road"
"Who are you? And whose body is this?"
"I'm John Morgan and you have my body. This is my sister's body" you pointed at yourself. "It's a long story but she acquired the ability to swap bodies by bumping heads. She first swapped with me leaving me like this then I saw her bump into you. You were wearing a blue skirt and a white top? I tried to chase her but couldn't get across the road"
"How do you swap bodies? That story is preposterous"
"Is it? Look at us? Look I know it's hard to believe but just play along. Once the policeman has gone we can find her and get everything fixed"
"Okay. I certainly want things fixed. I'm supposed to be getting married next weekend"
"Let's go back to the policeman. He'll be wondering where we have gone"
The officer was still talking on the phone but hung up after he saw the two of you reappearing. "Your parents are coming home straight away. Can I trust you two to stay here until they are home?" He was looking at the teenage boy.
"Yes officer"
"And you young lady. No crossing busy roads by yourself. Even when you are older always use a crossing"
"Yes officer" You hoped you looked contrite
"Well. I'll be off then. Lock the door after me. Remember I don't want to be running into either of you again today"
"Thank-you for you help Officer. I'm sure we will be fine" said the apparent teenage boy as the policeman left. He shut and locked the door as instructed. Then turned to you.
