"Okay John! Now explain exactly how I get my body back!" I didn't realise how threatening my body could sound when I was angry.
"We ring her and tell her to come home" My little girl voice hardly sounded authoritative.
"How do we ring her? Does she have a phone?"
"Did you? Is more the question. We ring your number and hope she answers" You felt so clever
"Yeah I suppose it's worth a try" your old body conceded. "My name is Amy by the way" I suspect she felt guilty that she had spoken so tersely to a 7 year old girl.
"Well why don't you dial your number and let's hope she answers" you suggested while pointing at your mobile phone which Amy was holding in his hand.
"Um it has a lock on it" He handed it to you. You quickly unlocked it and handed it back. He dialled. And seemed genuinely surprised when after 10 seconds he got an answer. Clearly he had not rehearsed what to say. He handed the phone to you.
"Katie? Is that you? Come home" you said.
"Who's this? What's going on? Why am I in this body?" said a panicked sounding woman.
Clearly it was no longer Katie in that body. You had to think quickly "Don't hang up. I can guess what happened to you. Did you collide with someone then wake up in the body you currently have?"
"Yes! Yes! I'm not a woman! Who are you? Help me!"
"Where are you?"
"In Rosewood Park. I was sitting down eating my lunch then next thing I knew I was a woman lying on the ground and my body was running away. I chased but couldn't run in these stupid shoes and a dress. For god's sake I'm wearing a skirt!"
"That all makes sense to us. We are close by. Come to (your address). That's the street with the Spendless supermarket on the corner. We are only a couple of minutes away"
"Who are you? You sound like a little girl"
"My name is John and yes at the moment I am a little girl but I wasn't an hour ago. I'm in the same situation as you"
"Can I trust you?"
"That's your only choice"
Several minutes later your doorbell rang. You opened the door to find a dishevelled looking woman in a blue skirt and white blouse (partially stained). You quickly invited her in.
"I'm John" you explained "And this is Amy" you pointed at the 16 year old male body you used to possess. "In my old body. You're are currently in Amy's body and we are trying to find Katie. The owner of this body" you gestured at yourself. "I know it doesn't make sense but currently a 7 year old girl is running around swapping bodies with people"
"Just use this phone and ring your own phone number" said Amy. He held out the 'John' phone to the woman.
"I probably need to unlock it" I said taking the phone. I then handed it to the woman. "What's your name by the way" I asked
"Roger" the woman replied "Though I'm not myself at the moment. I was a 28 year old man"
"Just dial your number then give me the phone" you suggested. She did so.
After 10 rings you had mentally given up on it being answered but then the dialling stopped. There was no sound from the other end "Katie?" you asked.
You heard a man laugh "No you're Katie now. I'm a grown up man"
