When Lucas woke up, he went into the bathroom to clean himself up for the day, and he did a double-take when he saw his reflection. For one thing, he was noticeably larger than he was yesterday: his eye level came up to the top of the mirror! He even had more of that black hair growing on him; it was even getting harder to see his bare skin. His ears looked ridiculous: they were round and had shaggy black hair growing on them. He discovered he could move his ears, watching them flap about at his command. He wasn't sure what to think of this, but maybe someone else would help him figure it out. He went on with his morning routine and was very surprised to discover that he could no longer find any of his clothes.
"Mom? Dad? Where are my clothes?"
"Clothes?! Surely you don't need clothes, with that strong hairy hide of yours."
"Heh, heh. No seriously, where are my clothes."
...
"So ... I'm just going to eat breakfast naked, then?"
"Well, duh."
Lucas wondered if this was some kind of punishment for eating grass outside like an animal. But no one seemed to be even the slightest bit perturbed that his clothes were gone and that he was as bare as the day he was born. He reasoned that it was fine after all, since even if his clothes were still there, there is not way that they would have fit his larger frame. He sat his bare bottom on the kitchen table and waited for breakfast.
"What's the matter, Lucas? You look like you're waiting for something."
"Oh, I was just going to see what we ended up having for breakfast. I can just make some toast or something if we aren't eating together."
"Isn't your breakfast outside, though?"
Now Lucas was sure this was a punishment for yesterday.
"Look, I'm sorry for taking a few bites out of your precious lawn! I promise it won't happen again."
His mom scratched her head like she couldn't figure out what in the world he was on about.
"Lucas, why are you acting so strange today? No one has ever been upset with you for eating what you should normally be eating anyway. And who would ever expect you to squeeze yourself into some tight garment on a warm day like this? It's strange enough that you slept in the house last night."
Lucas was not even slightly sure whether to be relieved or insulted. It seemed that his parents were genuinely confused that he saw anything wrong with their treatment of him, and he had to admit that he couldn't get the idea of more grass out of his mind. He needed food soon, and he couldn't imagine anything tasting better to him right now. And so, waiting in the doorway for a few moments just in case his mother was joking, he made his way back out to the lawn, dropped himself to all fours, and eagerly began his morning graze.
