Jeff thinks for a while, suddenly he gets an idea, “dad,” he says, “isn't your birthday coming up in a week?”
Mike looks at his son, “yes, I'll be 50 in a week,” he says, “why do you ask?”
Jeff blushes a little, “well... um... I remember that you would like to have a new car,” the 16-year-old says. “I... um... I c-could transform into your dream car for a week. I c-could set the time of the transformation to a week, so each day I'd transform more into a car until I'd be a full car on your birthday.”
Mike raises an eyebrow, “and why do you want to be a car?”
“I... I am kinda curious,” Jeff says, “I'd l-like to know what it feels like to be a car,” he blushes a little.
Mike is taken aback, then he chuckles, “you really have strange fantasies, son,” he says. The man then thinks about Jeff's idea, “your mom will be going on a business trip and your older sister is at a camp.”
Jeff nods, “that is why I could set the time for the transformation to a week,” he says, “that why, when they return after a week, they'll think you just rented your dream car for a week, only you and me would know the truth.” The teenager looks at his dad, “so, what do you say?”
Mike thinks about it, then he smiles, “having my dream car for a week as a birthday present really would be sweet,” he says.
Jeff smiles, “have you got any questions before I start to set up the transformation?”
“A few,” his dad says, “one, will you be aware of the transformation? Two, will you have the Chronivac in your computer and three, can I choose any car?”
“Yes to all three,” Jeff says.
“Why will the Chronivac be inside of you,” his dad asks.
“Well, for me to be able to transform back after a week, the Chronivac has to be somehow connected to me,” Jeff explains.
“I see,” Mike says, “so, if the program would somehow lose the connection, then... .”
Jeff nods, “I'll be stuck as a car until it reconnects to me.”
“Last question,” Mike says, “will you have control over your new body and the Chronivac?”
Jeff tilts his head, “what do you mean?”
“I mean, would you be able to drive by yourself without anyone behind the wheel and could you “tamper” with your settings while being a car,” his father asks.
Jeff finds these questions kind of weird, but just shrugs, “yes,” he simply says.
'Hmm... a car should not be able to have a free will,' Mike thinks to himself, 'I'd need to fix that error, but that has to wait.'
Jeff is unaware, that the thought of him transforming into his dad's dream car for a week, made his dad somehow think of his son as an object. “So dad,” Jeff says, “what kind of car do you want me to become?”
Mike thinks for a while, he really enjoys old timers but is also amazed by newer models like the Skoda Superb Sportline or the Tesla. Being a mechanic, Mike enjoys taking cars apart to see how they are designed, he never had the chance to take apart a Jaguar from the 60s or an Shelby GT350 (also known as a “Cobra”). He smiles wide as he sets his mind on one car, “I'd love for you to become a... .”
