In Will’s hand, sat a shiny ring. Sparkling white diamonds trimmed the outside, with a floral pattern etched into the gold. Amy was taken aback, her hands over her mouth. Megan, standing right behind her, was equally shocked at Will’s presentation.
Holding the ring in the light, Will spoke in a stern tone, “Look, Amy, we have worked together for a while now. We have definitely gotten along well, but Megan and I, we have something special. I had planned on proposing tonight. And I will as soon as she gets back.” Amy leaned against the counter processing what he said. “You’re not a bad person, but I can’t do something like this. Not when I already have someone so special to me. Now, if you don’t plan on helping me with the presentation, then I think you need to leave.”
At that it was done. Megan, hearing every word as a trumpet on the ear, followed Will as he escorted Amy out. She was on cloud nine. Her whole world seemed to be coming together. The nightmare she had so often was now a childhood monster. The only thing that broke her out of this giddy haze was seeing Will’s worried face when he returned to the den. He kept checking his phone and texting Megan. All the while, she sat there next to him. The minutes turned into hours, as Will drifted off to sleep. Megan tried to snuggle up next to him; even if she could not be felt, she could still try to keep him company.
The Chronivac, not long after Megan to had fallen asleep, finally struck zero. In the middle of the night, Megan was restored right on top of Will. Neither of them flinched as the night carried on with the two in each other’s warm embrace.
