The pig never realized that it had gained Beth's incredible magical powers and went on to live the mundane life of an ordinary pig.
Meanwhile, Beth was trampled into the mud, her consciousness slowly getting dispersed throughout the pen by generation after generation of pigs, until she completely lost track of what she used to be.
Beth's body simply continued sleeping without its soul. Countless methods were tried, but nothing worked.
The highest ranking nobleman in the kingdom ascended to the throne after it had become clear that Beth would not wake up.
He stabilized the kingdom and his descendants became the new royal lineage, while attempting to awaken the old queen had become a tradition that every king had to follow before ascending to the throne. None of them expected her to ever wake up, but attempting it showed respect and allowed every generation to appear righteous to the public.
Beth's body had been tightly wrapped with sacred cloth and moved to a large cathedral, where everyone was allowed to look at and try to awaken her. No one even remembered what she looked like exactly, her body having been tightly wrapped and covered in holy symbols,
with her lips being the only exception. It had become a well known legend that a kiss from the right person may be able to wake her,
and even tough most people thought it was simply a myth, many still attempted it. Countless men and even many women kissed her lips every day, hoping that they would be the one. There had been many rumours over the years about what the person that could wake her up would get, with many stating that they would get to marry the queen or obtain riches beyond imagination.
No one knew that Beth had been in the palace's pig pen all these years, her soul being mixed with more mud and pig shit by every generation of pigs that stomped through her. She watched them as they grew up, played and relieved themselves in her, until they were brought away to be slaughtered. She didn't feel anything at first when the pigs were brought away, until she saw the ones that she had watched over since birth being taken away. It felt as if the children she had raised were being taken away to die.
She grieved every time it happened, until she managed to accepted it as a part of her life and tried to enjoy the time she had with each of them. Of course, none of them ever realized she was even there. The belief that she had raised them was entirely one-sided.
