In the changing room, the two of you begin to sort through the pieces of the costume.
There are two large, separate sections that each consist of two leg-holes capped by wedge-shaped rubber hooves. Your piece has a rather long waist section that would probably come up to your armpits, while the section Jess is holding has a short waistband with a large opening in the back, probably for the person in the rear to bend and "attach" through, making them look like one animal with four legs.
"It's definitely a centaur costume," Jess concludes, inspecting the hanger and extras-bag for additional parts. "I don't see any upper body clothes or a mane or horse-head anywhere… oh, but there is a pair of wings! Wow! Maybe it’s a costume with a variety of options - we could be a regular centaur, or a unicorn or pegasus version! Or all three!”
“Whatever you think looks best. I’m not going to be very... visible in this thing.” You shuck your pants and shirt, sliding your first leg into the suit until it reaches the bottom. You're surprised to feel some sort of high-heel, your weight coming to rest on the ball of your foot. Sighing and rolling your eyes where Jess can't see, you resign yourself to the fact that you're going to be wearing heels tonight for the first time in your life. Surprisingly they seem to be about the right size, and as you slide your other leg in and come to stand on both costume "hooves" you're astonished at how comfortable they actually are.
"Wow, you're extra tall!" Jess exclaims, having caught a glimpse of you behind her in the mirror. She turns and examines your feet. "Ohh, they're like platform wedges! Neat! Don't worry, babe, wedges are the most comfortable heels."
You take a couple of tentative steps around the spacious dressing room "Yeah, I'm shocked at how easy it actually is to move in them!" you say, noticing the faint "clopping" sound they make as your walk. Pulling the waistband up to just under your arms, you sit on the bench off to the side and watch as Jessica hastily strips down to her matching underwear.
"I'm not sure what sort of shirt, or... bustier or whatever I would wear." she says, slipping into the front-legs with ease. "Maybe something woodland-esque? I could pick up a brown bra..." The hooves seem to fit her smaller feet just as well as they fit yours, though you know her feet are much smaller than yours. You shrug it off as a one-size-fits-all costume trick as Jess pulls the furred fabric over her hips. You catch a flash her pink panties through the loose hole in the back as she swirls back to face the mirror.
"Well I'm not quite sure how the logistics work, but I guess I can just wrap my arms around your waist with my head against your back." You rub the back of your neck, already anticipating some discomfort. "I mean, it'll only be for when we arrive and when people wanna take photos and stuff, right?"
Jess nods, distracted with putting the unicorn headband on so that the horn looks like it's protruding from her forehead. "Of course. Just for pictures." she murmurs, fluffing her hair to better hide the clear, plastic band. “Here, put the wings on! We might as well see if they fit and look good, then we can choose what version we want to go as.” She hands you the wings without looking away from her reflection, and as you inspect them, you realize they might be made from real feathers, so white they’re almost gleaming under the lights. Shrugging, you slip the elastic bands over your shoulders like a backpack.
Later, you think: That was it.
That was the moment when everything changed.
