Kevin and Philip were still outside, and I
reported to them what Bob had told me,
finishing with, "Do you think I should find
them and see if everything is OK?"
"Nah," Kevin said. "Let them work it out.
They're big boys, right?"
"Well, MATTHEW is."
"I heard Doug is, too," Philip said with a
salacious wink. Trust him to turn the
conversation in that direction.
"No comment," I said.
"I heard Danny is bigger, anyway," said
Kevin with an even more salacious wink.
My face burned. He certainly had the
inside scoop in that department. As far as
I knew, he had never told his lover that he
and I had slept together several times,
but he dropped no end of hints.
I was about to walk away, when there was
one of those general conversational lulls
that happens from time to time at parties.
We were between CDs, and the silence
for one split second was almost
deafening, until . . .
"WHAT THE HELL?" someone yelled
from inside the house. It was the sound
of pure horror, and I wondered who had
been caught kissing (or doing something
else to) whose boyfriend.
I was about to make a remark along
these lines, when there was another yell
of "OH MY GOD!" simultaneously with a
"DOUG, PLEASE, NO!"
Both of these were cut off strangely.
Through the windows into the house, the
partyers I could see stood stock still,
looking around to see what was up. But
there were a lot of partiers I could NOT
see, in other areas of the house, and that
was what worried me.
