Animalia Magazine: Spooky Scary Edition

added by makutamon A year ago O

The October issue of Animalia Magazine was a bit thicker than the other issues because it included several articles about things going on in Spookyville, which was how Animalia celebrated Halloween. While there were some things that were considered "usual", there was another section that talked about Spookyville's newest special event, the Night Parade of 100 Demons.

---

The article that talked about the Night Parade said that it was not only going to be a Japanese/Asian adaptation of Halloween, but also a made-for-tv miniseries. The article not only talked about the overall plot (where Susanoo and Heracles band together to recover the Amaterasu's gem and mirror after they were stolen) but also referenced the various Greek and Japanese myths that would be the "complications" in recovering them. For example, the location of a clue to the mirror's location (in a ruined tower in a swamp inhabited by man-eating birds) was a reference to Heracles' sixth labor.

---

Another article talked about Mesoamerican, pre-Columbian mythology and theology, since the final part of the Night Parade involved descending into what was essentially Hell. Not only did it explain how things, like the nine layers of hell, functioned in pre-Columbian mythology, it also sited various times heroes had to, quite literally, go into hell to achieve a certain goal, whether completing an impossible task, or consulting a long-dead sage/prophet, or even just retrieving the soul of a loved one who died recently (as well as whether or not such a task was successful).

The article also included an official release/publication of the cave that Professor Nova had found while investigating El Jichi (official verdict: unknown). Both Animalians from Vilcabamba and the Brazilian government had secured the cave before the illegal archaeologists/grave robbers could move in to steal anything, but there were some things in said cavern that were still creepy enough to keep most people out, such as the "whispering" that had been officially explained by air moving through the rock formations there.

While there was a lot of information for those going to Spookyville, there weren't many who wanted to keep a magazine in their pockets for long periods of time, so there was an easily removable map of Spookyville to help out, somewhat.
