Rob put his finger over his lips. Janie nodded, and picked the baby off the floor as Rob put the computer back on the table. Janie pointed at the baby's bottom, and raised her eyebrows. Rob shook his head no, there were no diapers in the house. Janie took off for the kitchen, baby in her arms, while Rob sat at the computer trying to fix the problem.
Janie felt so light in her new body that she was less walking than floating. She knew it was sexist, but something about taking care of a baby made her feel extra-feminine. She was tying a dishtowel around the baby's rear to serve as a diaper when Rob came into the kitchen.
"I've disabled the voice recognition software." he said. "I think I can change her back."
"And maybe change her back into someone who's not freaked out?"
"She was in range when the Chronivac program was first turned on, so it scanned her then. I can put her back to where she was before she came into my room, then reinscribe the reality alteration so she accepts our new forms. I think. Actually, could you look at the setup just in case I missed something?" Both Rob and Janie had used the Chronivac to give themselves an intelligence boost, so they were confident about approaching the machine.
"But she's such a cute baby--yes you are, aren't you?" Janie tickled the laughing baby.
Something about the sight of Janie, happy and totally at ease with herself, caught Rob's emotions, in turmoil as he adjusted to his new hormonal balance. He started crying, and said "You know, you're just as beautiful on the outside now as you always were on the inside."
"Thank you." Janie kissed Rob on the cheek. "You know, in this reality my momma was probably always warning me about smooth-talkin white boys."
Rob's tears to turned to laughter, in which Janie joined him as both released the tension that had been built up over the years. Even the baby joined in.
Several minutes later, Rob, gasping for breath, said. "Let's get this mess straightened out." The three went to his room to use the Chronivac.
