"Bob!" I said in a surprised tone as I
entered the bathroom. "What's going on?"
Bob, leaning on a mop, looked extremely
irritated. "Some jerk drank too much, got
sick and threw up all over the bathroom," Bob
said. "I've got a house full of guests, and
this guy tries to take out the only bathroom
on this floor with a bio-hazard attack!"
I moved closer to the toilet and stared down
at the tile floor. I didn't see any sign of
Matthew.
"Are you looking for something?" Bob asked
me.
"No," I lied. "Who was the guy?"
"What guy?"
"The drunk guy?"
"Oh, I don't know. I don't know half the
guests. I sent him off with a friend. I think
they were going to call him a cab."
Bob, having finished cleaning, started to
leave. I stopped him by asking if he had seen
Doug.
"Your ex?"
"Yeah, have you seen him?"
Bob gave me a disapproving look. "Baby, just
stay as far from him as you can," Bob said.
"Trust me. He's no good for you."
"I know that," I said, somewhat irritated by
Bob's lecture. "But I really need to speak
with him. If it wasn't important, I wouldn't
be seeking him out."
"Well, so you say," Bob replied. "But, to be
honest, I haven't seen him."
Great! So, not only had I lost Matthew, my
current boyfriend, I couldn't find my old
boyfriend to make him restore Matthew.
"Well, back to the party," Bob said.
"I'll be along," I said. "Got to use the
facilities."
After Bob left, I gave the bathroom a
thorough search. I found no trace of Matthew.
I began to get worried.
Had he fled in the face of the onslaught from
a drunken giant? If so, where should I look
for him?
And, to increase my unease, I knew that
somewhere out in the commotion of Bob's
party, Doug was still on the loose.
