The cafeteria at the resort was open. Mummy found a table and ordered you a bowl of cereal. There were other people also eating. You noticed a couple with a young daughter at the next door table. Mummy was talking to the parents. The little girl stared at you. You stuck your tongue out at her.
You heard the other lady say “Why don’t you join us. Milly would love a playmate of her own age”
Your Mummy must have agreed. You shifted tables and you found yourself sitting next to the little girl. She was all girlie in a pink dress. She didn’t look friendly. Your breakfast arrived. Mummy prepared it for you and you ate it down. You had been hungry.
Mummy was still talking to the other grown ups when you finished. The girl asked you “How old are you?”
“I’m Fwee”
"I’m nearly four so I’m bigger than you”
“You can’t be. I’m fwee and I’m the same size as you”
“I’m nearly four. It’s going to be my birthday soon and I’m going to get a new barbie”
“I don’t care. I don’t like barbies and I don’t like girls”
“That’s being nasty. You’re mean”
“Am not. Girls are yucky. I hate girls”
Mummy must have been listening “What did you just say?” She sounded cross.
Milly answered “He said he hates girls and called me yucky”
“Did he now?”
“Yes! And he said he doesn’t like barbies”
“I was hoping you two would get on. Jane was telling me they have a wonderful playground down near the pool” You retained enough sense to assume Jane was Milly’s Mum.
“I don’t want to play with a girl. They have germs”
“Well that’s a pity. I was enjoying the company”
“Actually we could have a solution. Come by our room on the way to the playground” this was Milly’s mother talking.
