“This will be good for us.” Said Mrs. Lee as she sat in the passenger seat of the SUV driven by her high school sweat heart and husband of almost 20 years. Sitting behind them was their three children, none of them pleased with this change to their lives.
“After 17 years in one town we move across the nation for this job?” inquired their oldest daughter as she sat in the far back looking up from her phone. She was the spitting image of her mother back in the day, honey brown hair, great figure and deep blue eyes.
“Ellen, it is ok to be angry, but this school also has a built-in university and…” said her father a darker hair man of age with his wife. Ellen let out a resigned sigh, she knew one of the reasons why her parents had taken the job, it came not only with a massive increase in money, a free home, and other huge benefits but because of their lack of money. Both her parents where public school teachers and therefore didn’t make a whole lot of money but that wasn’t the problem.
Ellen turned to look at her little brother, Tim his bald head and weak frame for his age. He had come down with cancer and that had destroyed any spare money they had. She didn’t have the money to go to the schools she wanted with her friends, she hated that, but she loved her now cancer free brother too much to hold it against him or their parents. In a way he and their other sister Stacy had hit worse they where still in school when they left so they left everyone behind, at least she had finished high school in their hometown and all her friends where already going to different colleges so why would her going to one she nor they had ever heard of really matter.
They turned down a well paved road which was surrounded by tall but perfectly maintained trees, they passed through a large stone gate with a wall which shot off in either direction. All the kids looked out the window at the university before them, there where kids of every age. From the elementary school age of Stacy to Tim’s middle school age and finally college age students all walking around. The grounds where nearly perfect with multiple walking paths and what looked to be their own internal bus system. The buildings where mostly red brick with more and more marble buildings the closer they got to the center.
They pulled to a stop in front of main administrative building.
“Well we are here.” said their father as the kids got out, Ellen instantly getting on her phone to check her social media, their mother trying to help Tim who brushed off the help wanting to do it himself after too long behind helpless.
“Mr. and Mrs. Lee?” inquired a woman in a business suit.
“Yes…you must be Headmistress La Fay.” said Mrs. Lee as La Fay nodded.
“Yes, and I thank you for arriving at the prefect moment.” Said La Fay
“Well, it is strange to be meeting this late on a Friday.” Said Mr. Lee as he looked at his watch, it was almost 5 at night. “Is the staff having some sort of welcoming dinner or ceremony.”
“You could say that.” Said La Fay “See it had been a while since we have hired a new teacher, yet alone two new teachers. See this isn’t a normal school.”
“We know it is a boarding school with a large age range…” started Mrs. Lee as suddenly the ground started to shake.
“What the?” inquired Ellen “My phone just lost all service.”
“Is this an Earthquake?” inquired Mr. Lee
“In a way.” Said La Fay in a calm voice as the sky above them changed to show five different moons in the coming darkness none of them the one they knew. When they did everything around them began to change, a nearby group of high school age kids turned into a mixture of magical creatures, centaurs, naga and the like. “We are shifting into our world, the magical world a world full of magical creatures. This school was founded not only to educate them but to transform humans into magical creatures to help regrow our population after being slaughtered by ancient humans.”
“What?” inquired Mrs. Lee confused at what was happening around them.
“And as staff members you and your family will become mythical creatures and join our world.” Finished Headmistress La Fay “So welcome to our world.”
