The boy and girl installed the app and turned their device to David.
"What's going on? Where's my mom?" he asked. The app processed his voice and played it out loud.
The boy and girl cheered and high-fived each other. "This thing can talk!"
"Old AI is so weird, I can't wait to see what we can make it say!"
David got frustrated as he continued to flail his limbs around and get used to his fluffy, barely articulate body. "I'm not AI! They were supposed to put me in my mom's body, then they said they fucked it up, now I'm stuck in a teddy bear, then I glitched into this room! When will this end? I just want to go home in my normal body again!"
The girl and boy were stunned. The dirty, matted old teddy bear was whining at them.
"Wait..." said the boy after a moment. "Are you... a person?"
David was aghast. "Of course I'm a person! My name's David! I'm a teenage boy! My parents made me do some insane experiment and now my life is fucking ruined! I'm real! I'm not a fucking doll!"
The girl stifled a smirk. " 'David', oh my God... those old-timey names are so cute..."
David knew there was something he was missing. "What... wait, who are you two? Why are you dressed like that? Why are you talking like that?"
The boy caught on, concealing his own smirk. "David, what country do you live in?"
"The... U.S.," he stammmered.
The two kids nearly doubled over but constrained their laughter enough to ask the follow-up.
"David, you're such a smart teddy bear," the girl sweetly asked. "Who's the leader of 'the U.S.'?"
"D-... Donald Trump," David said.
The kids couldn't contain their hysterics anymore. "You're really a person aren't you? What year are you from?" They seemed genuinely excited to meet him.
David finally accepted the obvious. His family simply shut him off. The fact that these kids found him in the future was a small miracle.
"2019," he admitted at last.
The kids had moved past their laughter and we're very pleased to hear this. "It's nice to meet you, David from 'the U.S.' in 2019, whose family installed him into a teddy bear. Welcome to 2122. What's it like to be a teddy bear?" The girl grabbed him and sat him on her lap.
