When I arrived, Kiyoshi was leaning on a dilapidated, rusty lawn mower.
"Ah, John, you've finally arrived" said Kiyoshi
"So I have. Can you explain to me now why exactly you wanted us to meet at the park instead of the site of this supposed crop circle?" I said
Kiyoshi gave me a look like I had asked him to quit watching Star trek reruns.
"...I don't think you understand, J-man. This is the site of the crop circle." said Kiyoshi
He stood proudly and gave the handle of the poor lawn mower a good smack for emphasis.
"You can't be serious, Kiyoshi." I said
"I really don't understand you sometimes, John. I told you we'd be investigating a crop circle. What did you expect us to be doing?" said Kiyoshi
In a strange way, Kiyoshi was actually right. I should have expected something as ridiculous as this.
"Whatever, man. I'm gonna make this thing with or without your help." said Kiyoshi
He gave the pull-string of the lawnmower a few tugs. The wretched thing looked near collapse before it finally came to life.
"This is illegal, you know." I said
Kiyoshi didn't seem to hear me over the pained sputters of the mower. I felt a deep sympathy with the machine that I rarely even felt with other humans.
"Keep an eye out for aliens, will you?" said Kiyoshi
Kiyoshi was doing his best to shout over the gurgling of the engine.
I sighed.
